Dounia and Adnane Filali Barred from Medical Care in France Amid Ongoing Dispute with Interior Ministry

The activist couple denounces what they describe as institutional exclusion and deprivation of rights, citing prolonged refusal by French authorities to enforce court decisions.

Algiers, Algeria | May 22nd, 2025 — Political activist Dounia Filali announced on Tuesday that she and her husband, Adnane Filali, have been denied access to medical care in France. The decision, she notes, is linked to actions by the French Ministry of the Interior and the Prefecture of Police in the Île-de-France region, whom she accuses of refusing to implement court rulings in their favor.

“Today, during an urgent medical appointment, I was shocked to discover that we are now prohibited from receiving medical treatment in France — whether paid or not,” Filali stated in a post on her official account. “This is due to the refusal by the Ministry of the Interior and Bruno Retailleau, through the Prefecture of Police in Île-de-France, to execute clear legal decisions that concern us.”

According to her statement, the couple has been deprived of what she describes as fundamental rights and has been placed on what she calls a blacklist. She describes the situation as one of “institutional violence,” which she links to France’s efforts to maintain diplomatic ties with the Moroccan government.

“With Adnane Filali, our most basic rights are being taken away. We are literally blacklisted, and our rights are being trampled upon in a climate of institutional violence — all to preserve bilateral relations with a regime we describe as feudal and oppressive,” she added.

Filali indicated that a detailed official communiqué would be issued shortly, outlining what she described as instances of abuse and persecution the couple is experiencing in France.
