Economy, Modernity, and National Development: President Tebboune Reaffirms State’s Commitments

𝓐𝓵𝓰𝓲𝓮𝓻𝓼 – 𝓓𝓮𝓬𝓮𝓶𝓫𝓮𝓻 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓 – In a solemn address to the nation delivered on Tuesday from the Palace of Nations, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune spoke before the members of both chambers of Parliament, reaffirming the strategic orientations of the Algerian State at a critical juncture marked by internal transformations and external challenges.
The President’s speech, firm in substance yet conciliatory in tone, was underpinned by clear, reassuring, and mobilizing messages. He reviewed the achievements of the past year, outlined forthcoming priorities, and called for national unity in the face of challenges confronting the country both domestically and internationally.
This address, now firmly embedded in Algeria’s institutional tradition since 2023, served as a renewed affirmation of President Tebboune’s vision of an Algeria determined to consolidate reforms, strengthen its sovereignty, and advance resolutely toward stability, modernity, and inclusive progress for all citizens.
Expressing his satisfaction with this constitutional meeting, the Head of State praised the positive momentum that has characterized parliamentary activity, noting its contribution to enhancing legislative effectiveness. He emphasized Parliament’s role as a cornerstone of Algerian state institutions, particularly through the exercise of legislative initiative, citing major draft laws such as the nationality law and the law criminalizing colonialism.
The President underscored that this meeting forms part of a sustained commitment to dialogue with the people through their elected representatives, who, he stressed, faithfully reflect the political will that the executive is determined to uphold and rigorously implement. Reaffirming his attachment to dialogue, including with political parties, he stated that once the law on political parties is adopted, a new phase will begin, assuring that all commitments made to political actors will be fully honored. He reiterated his fidelity to his pledges and his unwavering resolve to defend the supreme interests of the nation.
“We Will Continue the Reform Process”
Addressing parliamentarians, President Tebboune declared that neither difficulties nor resistance to change—whether internal or external—would obstruct Algeria’s reform trajectory. He affirmed that the reform process would continue relentlessly across all sectors, within the framework of sustainable development programs and the fulfillment of citizens’ fundamental needs.
On the economic front, he stressed that reforms would be deepened through stronger governance in the service of and by the people, intensified efforts to combat corruption, and the eradication of negligence or indifference in public affairs. Justice, he asserted, would remain vigilant against all manifestations of corruption and professional misconduct, while guaranteeing protection for honest and dedicated public servants. In this regard, he recalled that the new statute of the judiciary has become a concrete reality following parliamentary debate, fulfilling commitments made to members of the judicial corps.
Turning to the economic situation, the President affirmed that Algeria has entered a decisive phase, characterized by tangible progress in integrating both domestic and foreign investment circuits. He cited the results achieved by the National Agency for Investment Promotion as a strong indicator of the coherence and effectiveness of the adopted policy. According to the figures presented, nearly 19,000 investment projects have been registered over the past two and a half years, amounting to 8,242 billion dinars—approximately 61 billion US dollars—resulting in the creation of 500,000 jobs. Among these projects, 309 were carried out in partnership with foreign investors, representing an investment volume of 1,300 billion dinars, or around 9.5 billion dollars.
The President also highlighted the unprecedented success of the African Intra-African Trade Fair, describing it as concrete proof of the growing importance accorded to investment in Algeria. He stated that the contours of the new economic model are now clearly emerging, confirmed by positive indicators acknowledged by African and international economic institutions. “We were told we would never enter a new era,” he declared, “yet I say that this era is already here.”
He further emphasized the resilience and adaptability of the Algerian economy in the face of external shocks, noting that the country has preserved its financial stability and macroeconomic balances. This is evidenced, he said, by the decline in inflation, which fell to 2.8% in 2025 and is projected to reach 2% in 2026—an indicator he described as a decisive response to skeptics.
Regarding purchasing power, President Tebboune recalled that Algeria has successfully preserved it, as prices have not increased compared to 2018 and 2019 levels. He described this achievement as “a miracle,” particularly given that inflation stood at 9% at that time, while many countries today face double-digit inflation rates. “The economy is healthy,” he asserted, adding that this success is not attributable solely to the President but to the collective effort of all Algerians. “Those who refuse to acknowledge these achievements are ungrateful and driven by envy,” he stated.
Concluding his address, the President cited further tangible achievements, including the completion of 950 kilometers of railway lines and 22 kilometers of bridges within a year and a half. “When mobilized, the Algerian is capable of anything,” he affirmed, announcing that GDP growth is expected to reach 4% by 2026—positioning Algeria among the most dynamic economies on the African continent.
