El Ghazouani: The Algerian–Mauritanian Road, a Vital Artery for African Economic Integration at IATF 2025

Algiers – September 2025 – In a speech that resonated with both strategic vision and fraternal solidarity, the President of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, hailed Algeria’s hosting of the 4th edition of the Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF 2025) as a defining milestone for the continent’s economic integration. Speaking before African leaders, policymakers, and entrepreneurs, El Ghazouani underscored that the road linking Algeria and Mauritania has evolved into a “vital commercial artery,” symbolizing not only bilateral cooperation but also the broader African ambition for interconnectedness and shared prosperity.
Expressing gratitude for the warm hospitality extended by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and the Algerian people, El Ghazouani reaffirmed the depth of ties uniting Nouakchott and Algiers. He stressed that both nations are bound by a common vision — the construction of a strong, resilient, and influential Africa that asserts its rightful place in the global economic order.
El Ghazouani emphasized that Mauritania’s strategic orientation towards diversifying its economy reflects this collective aspiration. Through the modernization of its economic infrastructure, Nouakchott has sought not only to strengthen national development but also to harmonize with Algeria’s efforts to build regional corridors that benefit the continent as a whole.
Highlighting tangible achievements, he pointed to the Algerian–Mauritanian highway as a transformative project that has invigorated trade, facilitated the movement of goods and people, and brought communities closer together. This infrastructure, he argued, is far more than a road: it is a living testament to the power of joint projects in advancing integration, creating opportunities, and reinforcing the interdependence of African nations.
Beyond infrastructure, El Ghazouani called for continued collaboration in key sectors such as energy, logistics, and industrial transformation, noting that such partnerships can serve as multipliers for continental growth. He emphasized that the lessons drawn from the Algerian–Mauritanian experience should inspire similar ventures across Africa, forging a continental network of economic lifelines that collectively strengthen the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
