Algiers – December 2025 – The Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Fisheries, Yacine El-Mahdi Oualid, underscored the critical importance of diversifying financial resources for farmers to bolster investments across both plant and livestock sectors. Speaking during the 51st anniversary celebrations of the founding of the National Union of Algerian Farmers (UNPA) on Thursday, El-Mahdi Oualid emphasized that the ministry is actively exploring tailored funding mechanisms, including microcredit and venture capital, to meet farmers’ investment needs.
Highlighting the sector’s strategic modernization, the minister noted ongoing systematic efforts to digitize agricultural processes, enhance efficiency, and support sustainable development. “Modernizing agriculture is no longer optional; it is imperative for securing investment and ensuring sectoral resilience,” he stated.
During his inspection of a grain storage facility project in the commune of Guemmar, El-Mahdi Oualid reviewed plans for a comprehensive program comprising 30 storage structures across El Oued, with a cumulative capacity of 100,000 tons. He called for the acceleration of construction works to meet contractual deadlines and urged the establishment of additional agricultural zones dedicated to cereal cultivation.
Accompanied by UNPA Secretary-General Abdellatif Dilmi, the Minister of Water Resources Taha Derbal, and the Minister of Internal Trade and Market Regulation Amel Abdellatif, El-Mahdi Oualid reaffirmed the government’s commitment to creating a diversified, modern, and highly productive agricultural sector, capable of meeting national food security objectives and supporting rural development.
