Algiers – September 2025 – In a landmark move that underscores Algeria’s ambition to assert itself as a continental economic hub, Elsewedy Electric Algérie sealed a $100 million export agreement with Côte d’Ivoire on Saturday, on the sidelines of the 2025 Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF) held at the Palais des Expositions, Algiers.
Under the deal, the Algeria-based subsidiary of the Egyptian industrial giant Elsewedy will export locally manufactured cables to Côte d’Ivoire over the course of five years, with annual deliveries averaging $20 million. The agreement reflects not only the growing industrial capacity of Algeria but also the country’s determination to transform itself into a pivotal supplier within Africa’s expanding markets.
Omar Rekkache, Director General of the Algerian Agency for the Promotion of Exports (AAPI), hailed the contract as a “prototype” of the numerous strategic agreements expected to be concluded during the IATF, emphasizing that it sets a precedent for a new wave of cross-continental partnerships. “This deal embodies the very spirit of the IATF. It demonstrates that Algerian manufacturers are ready to compete at scale, penetrate new markets, and anchor Algeria’s presence within the African supply chain,” he stated.
Rekkache further stressed that the AAPI will fully support Algerian investors to ensure they secure maximum partnerships, reinforcing the country’s strategic objective of capturing significant shares in African markets. “Our agency remains fully mobilized to sustain and accompany these transactions. This is more than trade—it is the cornerstone of Algeria’s future economic integration with Africa,” he added.
The signing ceremony was also attended by Kamel Moula, President of the Algerian Economic Renewal Council (CREA), who underscored the deal’s importance as a model of synergy between industrial operators, export promotion structures, and African partners. “This is a clear message: Algeria is open, dynamic, and determined to position itself at the heart of Africa’s economic renaissance,” he remarked.
The Elsewedy-Côte d’Ivoire agreement is widely seen as a flagship success of the IATF 2025 in Algiers, a fair that has already become a strategic platform for showcasing Africa’s capacity to drive intra-continental trade, reduce dependency on external markets, and forge new alliances in key sectors ranging from energy and infrastructure to technology and agribusiness.
