Energy Cooperation, Technical Expertise and Strategic Partnership: Sonatrach, SONABHY Strengthen Ties in Ouagadougou

𝓐𝓵𝓰𝓲𝓮𝓻𝓼 – 𝓕𝓮𝓫𝓻𝓾𝓪𝓻𝔂 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 –  In a move underscoring the deepening of African energy collaboration, Algeria’s Sonatrach and Burkina Faso’s national hydrocarbons company, SONABHY, held a high-level coordination meeting on Friday at the SONABHY headquarters in Ouagadougou. The meeting, attended by Sonatrach CEO Noureddine Daoudi, Naftal CEO Djamel Cherdoud, and Mourad Belhadjhem, Director General of Hydrocarbons at Algeria’s Ministry of Hydrocarbons and Mines, focused on exploring avenues to bolster cooperation and strategic partnership in the hydrocarbons sector.

Presided over by the SONABHY Deputy Director General, the session brought together senior officials from both sides to discuss joint initiatives aimed at enhancing production, transport, and distribution capabilities, particularly in liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and propane. Central to the discussions was the transfer of Algerian technical expertise to support Burkina Faso in establishing a modern gas-bottle filling facility, including the provision of equipment, bottles, and accessories, alongside specialized training programs.

The talks also highlighted opportunities for sharing operational know-how, reinforcing training programs, and developing human capital by leveraging the extensive experience accumulated by Sonatrach and its subsidiaries, including Naftal. In his address, Daoudi reaffirmed Sonatrach’s commitment to assisting SONABHY in modernizing and improving the efficiency of Burkina Faso’s hydrocarbons sector within a framework of balanced, mutually beneficial cooperation.

This meeting reflects the broader strategic vision outlined by Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, emphasizing the consolidation of African partnerships and the promotion of South-South cooperation, particularly in sectors critical to economic and social development.

SONABHY, as Burkina Faso’s public entity responsible for importing, storing, transporting, and marketing liquid and gaseous hydrocarbons, continues to play a pivotal role in securing the country’s energy infrastructure and ensuring the reliability of national supply chains.
