Energy Minister Arkab Receives Saudi Ambassador to Discuss Strategic Investment Prospects

Algiers, Algeria | July 1st, 2025 — Algeria and Saudi Arabia are poised to elevate their energy collaboration to unprecedented levels. On Tuesday, the Algerian Minister of State, Minister of Energy, Mines, and Renewable Energies, Mohamed Arkab, received the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Algeria, Abdullah Bin Nasser Al Bussairy, to discuss pathways for deepening cooperation and investment across the energy sector.

The high-level meeting, which took place at the Ministry’s headquarters in the presence of the Secretary of State in charge of Renewable Energies, Noureddine Yassaâ, and several senior officials, reaffirmed the strength of the historical and fraternal relations between Algiers and Riyadh. Both parties reiterated their political commitment to transforming bilateral cooperation into a strategic partnership, particularly in energy, mining, renewable resources, and seawater desalination.

During the talks, the two sides conducted a comprehensive review of the potential for joint investments in vital areas such as hydrocarbon exploration and development, petrochemical industries, electricity production and transformation, mineral resource exploitation, renewable energy development, and the production of green hydrogen, a promising frontier in the global energy transition.

Minister Arkab highlighted the existing partnerships between Algerian energy giant Sonatrach and major Saudi companies, notably SABIC and Saudi Aramco. He also referred to the Memorandum of Understanding signed with Midad Energy in March 2024, aimed at developing gas fields. In addition, Arkab emphasized the importance of the ongoing high-level bilateral meetings, which seek to implement concrete joint exploration and production projects.

He assured Ambassador Al Bussairy of Algeria’s full readiness to support and accompany Saudi partners within the framework of the country’s newly reformed investment climate. He stressed that Algeria’s vast natural potential, coupled with its strategic geographical position and progressive regulatory environment, make it an ideal destination for Saudi capital and expertise.

For his part, the Saudi Ambassador reaffirmed his country’s growing interest in strengthening investment partnerships in the Algerian market. He expressed particular appreciation for Algeria’s renewed legal framework, which has become increasingly attractive to foreign investors.
