Algiers, Algeria– Sunday, July 20, 2025 | In a politically charged and unwaveringly patriotic address, Youcef Aouchiche, First Secretary of the Socialist Forces Front (FFS), reaffirmed his party’s staunch commitment to national unity and the indivisible fabric of Algerian identity. Speaking at a political review conference held on Saturday in the locality of Bechloul, Bouira Province, Aouchiche delivered a speech laced with urgency and ideological clarity, warning against the re-emergence of divisive discourses that, in his view, pose a direct threat to Algeria’s social cohesion and sovereign integrity.

“National unity is not up for negotiation; it is a red line,” he declared emphatically, underscoring that this principle stands at the heart of the FFS’s societal vision. Aouchiche anchored his intervention in what he termed the “spirit of independence,” invoking the core patriotic and democratic values that have historically defined Algeria’s political trajectory.

In an implicit rebuke of various political and ideological factions, the FFS leader decried what he described as attempts to “resurrect the demons of destructive ideological polarizations” through incendiary rhetoric and covert strategies aimed at sowing discord among Algerians. “To be drawn into this trap,” he warned, “is to become complicit in an agenda that seeks the weakening of the state, the erosion of the social bond, and the dislocation of national cohesion.”

Rejecting any binary framing of Algerian identity, Aouchiche forcefully opposed the instrumentalization of cultural and ideological differences. “Islam, Amazighity, Arabity, and modernity are not mutually exclusive,” he asserted. “They complement one another and form the very foundation of our Algerian personality.” His speech notably rejected the dichotomous narratives that pit Islamism against secularism, Amazigh culture against Arab heritage, or modernity against tradition—narratives he accused some actors of exploiting for political gain.

The FFS chief invoked the dark legacy of the 1990s, a period marked by violent ideological confrontation and national trauma, cautioning against any regression to such perilous divisions. “It is unthinkable to allow a repetition of those dangerous polarizations,” he stated, warning of the grave consequences for Algerian society should history repeat itself.

He called upon Algerians to embody patriotism through lucidity, civic responsibility, and unwavering vigilance. “The true divide,” he said, “is between the patriotic forces committed to unity, sovereignty, liberty, and democracy, and those aligned with inertia or national disloyalty.”

In a concluding appeal aimed at transcending divisions, Aouchiche proposed the adoption of a national pact rooted in shared values, cultural diversity, and inclusive political vision. This pact, he suggested, would pave the way for profound political and institutional reforms and serve as a bulwark against any attempt to fracture the nation’s foundational unity.
