FFS Leader Youcef Aouchiche Urges National Unity to Safeguard Algeria’s Sovereignty

In Chlef, the First Secretary of the Socialist Forces Front calls for a fortified internal front, national resilience, democratic engagement, and unwavering solidarity with the Palestinian cause

Algiers, Algeria | May 17th, 2025 — Amid a tense regional and global climate, Youcef Aouchiche, First Secretary of the Socialist Forces Front (FFS), issued an appeal on Saturday for the strengthening of Algeria’s internal front. Speaking at a partisan gathering in the wilaya of Chlef, Aouchiche underscored the pressing need for heightened national mobilization, reinforced sovereignty, robust and credible institutions, and a deepened commitment to democracy and pluralism.

“The current regional and international context compels us to reinforce our national front,” Aouchiche declared. “It is an imperative to build strong social and political resilience, to uphold institutions that command trust, and to ensure a broad-based engagement in the democratic process across all domains of public life.”

In a powerful reaffirmation of Algeria’s geopolitical posture, he warned that “Algeria is being targeted from multiple fronts — because of its rich natural resources, its pivotal geographical location, and its steadfast adherence to the principles it has defended since the glorious liberation revolution: namely, the right of peoples to self-determination and unwavering support for just causes.”

Aouchiche stressed that the “battle of awareness” must not be limited to political occasions but should instead be a permanent, year-round effort. He called for inclusive societal involvement in a collective project grounded in liberty, responsibility, and civic engagement — elements he described as fundamental to national unity and the establishment of a democratic state.

He reaffirmed the FFS’s belief that Algeria’s rich cultural and linguistic diversity is not a threat but a driver of development. “This diversity must be harnessed within a framework that promotes an authentic Algerian identity — one that resists subjugation to foreign agendas or externally-imposed projects,” he emphasized.

Turning to international affairs, Aouchiche condemned the daily massacres perpetrated against the Palestinian people in Gaza and the occupied territories, expressing the FFS’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause and denouncing what he called “barbaric practices.”

Regarding the nature of the event in Chlef, Aouchiche clarified that it was part of a national series of grassroots political engagements launched by the FFS across various wilayas. The initiative seeks to deepen dialogue with the people’s movement, stay attuned to national and global developments, and initiate strategic conversations with party activists on the national project adopted by the FFS.
