Bern — In a series of high-profile diplomatic engagements in Bern, Algeria’s Minister of State, Ahmed Attaf, Minister of Foreign Affairs, the National Community of Abroad, and African Affairs, reinforced the multifaceted relations between Algeria and Switzerland, spanning political, judicial, economic, and historical dimensions. This visit reflects Algeria’s commitment to consolidating its international partnerships through structured, strategic, and forward-looking diplomacy.

Attaf met with Federal Councillor Beat Jans, Head of the Federal Department of Justice and Police (DFJP). The discussion centered on the status and future of judicial and police cooperation between the two countries, with a particular focus on enhancing operational effectiveness, efficiency, and the capacity to address mutual legal and security priorities. The talks underscored Algeria’s emphasis on ensuring that international cooperation serves practical outcomes, particularly in areas affecting the safety and legal interests of citizens in both countries.

Later, Attaf engaged in a comprehensive dialogue with Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis, Vice-President of the Swiss Confederation and Head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs. The exchange explored all facets of Algerian-Swiss relations and identified pathways for expanding the bilateral agenda. Key topics included strengthening political dialogue, enhancing economic cooperation, and emphasizing the human dimension of bilateral collaboration. Both sides addressed pressing international developments, including the shifting dynamics in the Middle East and ongoing challenges in the Sahelo-Saharan region, reflecting Algeria’s role as a stabilizing actor in regional affairs.
