FM Attaf Meets Singaporean Officials to Strengthen Strategic Cooperation and Parliamentary Diplomacy

Algiers, Algeria | July 7th, 2025 — In a diplomatic move signaling Algeria’s growing engagement with Southeast Asia, Minister of Foreign Affairs Ahmed Attaf held a high-level working session on Monday in Singapore with his counterpart, Vivian Balakrishnan, as part of an official visit aimed at intensifying bilateral cooperation between Algiers and Singapore.

According to a statement issued by the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the talks offered a thorough and strategic review of Algerian-Singaporean relations, with both sides reaffirming their political will to broaden their partnership across emerging sectors.

Optimizing Complementary Advantages

Attaf and Balakrishnan agreed that the two countries enjoy complementary strengths that should be fully leveraged to unlock mutually beneficial investment and cooperation opportunities. They welcomed successful past collaborations—particularly in port management and transformational industries—as a foundation for a deeper economic relationship.

The ministers pledged to extend bilateral cooperation into new priority areas, including industrial innovation, agriculture, digital transformation, start-ups, urban governance, and higher education. This multi-sectoral expansion reflects both countries’ shared ambition to capitalize on 21st-century opportunities in technology and sustainability.

Converging Visions on Global Issues

Beyond economic diplomacy, the ministers exchanged views on pressing international and regional issues. They discussed the evolving situation in the Middle East, with a particular focus on the Palestinian cause, as well as the security dynamics in the Sahel-Sahara region, underscoring the need for multilateral cooperation and a rules-based international order.

The convergence of views between the two ministers demonstrates a mature and value-driven foreign policy alignment, strengthening Algeria’s positioning as a credible and constructive player on the global stage.

Attaf Received by Speaker of the Singaporean Parliament

As part of his diplomatic mission, Attaf was also received by Seah Kian Peng, Speaker of the Singaporean Parliament. The meeting highlighted the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in fortifying bilateral ties, with both sides exploring avenues to activate inter-parliamentary cooperation and bolster legislative support for international engagement.

The discussions reaffirmed the mutual political will to elevate the Algerian-Singaporean partnership into a more structured and resilient alliance, grounded in shared values, economic complementarity, and people-to-people engagement.
