Ahmed Attaf Reaffirms Depth of Algerian–Tunisian Partnership, Shared Commitment to Regional Stability

𝓐𝓵𝓰𝓲𝓮𝓻𝓼 – 𝓙𝓪𝓷𝓾𝓪𝓻𝔂 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 – Minister of State and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, delivered a press statement following his audience with Tunisian President Kaïs Saïed, highlighting the solidity of Algerian–Tunisian relations and the convergence of views between the two countries on major regional issues, foremost among them the Libyan crisis.
Attaf underlined the symbolic and particular significance of the meeting, which took place on the eve of the commemoration of the Sakiet Sidi Youssef events. He described this historic milestone as a “living memory consecrating the depth and rootedness of Algerian–Tunisian relations,” reflecting the enduring bonds of solidarity and shared destiny between the two brotherly nations.
On this occasion, the head of Algerian diplomacy noted that the audience granted by President Kaïs Saïed constituted a valuable opportunity to express the mutual satisfaction of both sides regarding the significant outcomes and qualitative advances achieved during the 23rd session of the Algerian–Tunisian Joint High Commission, held last month in Tunis.
Ahmed Attaf further indicated that President Kaïs Saïed had reiterated his strategic, integrated, and inclusive vision for the future of bilateral relations—one that is fully shared with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and embodies a common will to deepen integration and reinforce complementarity between the two countries.
The Centrality of Neighborhood Security
The Minister of State emphasized that the consolidation of bilateral relations goes hand in hand with the preservation of regional security and stability. He stressed the importance attached by the leadership of both countries to safeguarding the security of the immediate neighborhood and the shared geopolitical space.
In this context, Attaf highlighted the convening in Tunis of a new session of the Tripartite Mechanism of Libya’s Neighboring Countries—bringing together Algeria, Tunisia, and Egypt—dedicated to reviewing the latest developments in the Libyan crisis. He explained that this meeting forms part of the reactivation of the regional mechanism, following previous sessions held in Cairo and Algiers, with the aim of expressing, in a unified voice, the urgent necessity of putting an end to a crisis that has persisted for far too long.
The Minister of State affirmed that the primary objective of this collective effort remains support for the Libyan people, accompaniment of their endeavors to overcome the crisis, reunify their ranks, and reach a lasting political solution.
He recalled that the three countries are the most directly affected by the repercussions of the Libyan crisis, the closest to its realities and actors, and the most genuinely committed to preserving Libya’s sovereignty, territorial unity, and the integrity of its institutions.
Ahmed Attaf concluded by reaffirming Algeria’s firm conviction that Libya’s security is inseparable from that of its neighboring countries, underscoring that the collective responsibility lies in creating the conditions for an appropriate settlement that guarantees full Libyan ownership of the political process, free from any form of foreign interference or external polarization.
