Foreign Delegations to Undertake Working Visits to Sahrawi Refugee Camps in a Renewed Display of International Solidarity

Algiers – November 2025 – Foreign delegations are set to arrive in the coming days for a series of working visits to the Sahrawi refugee camps, in a fresh affirmation of international support for the Sahrawi people. According to the Sahrawi Press Agency (SPS), citing a source from the National Sahrawi Protocol Directorate, the delegations include representatives from the Spanish region of Andalusia, as well as from Portugal and Brazil.
Composed of parliamentarians, lawyers, and solidarity activists, the delegations will be briefed on the latest developments concerning the Western Sahara conflict, the humanitarian situation faced by Sahrawi refugees, and the functioning of Sahrawi state institutions. High-level meetings are scheduled with Sahrawi officials, SPS reports.
Alongside these meetings, the delegations will carry out extensive field visits to key regional infrastructures across the wilayas of Awserd, Smara, and Boujdour. These will include the National Museum of Resistance, the headquarters of the Sahrawi Red Crescent, and educational institutions dedicated to persons with disabilities.
The visiting delegations are also expected to meet with senior state and Polisario Front officials, including the Prime Minister, the Minister of Social Affairs and the Promotion of Women, the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the President of the Sahrawi Red Crescent.
Their mission will further extend to participation in the proceedings of the 10th Congress of the Sahrawi Youth Union, a key event taking place at a moment of heightened diplomatic and political developments for the Sahrawi cause. This visit, SPS notes, reaffirms longstanding international solidarity, particularly in the wake of the adoption of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2797.
Adopted on October 31, the resolution renews for one year the mandate of the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO). Significantly, it removes the exclusive character of Morocco’s autonomy proposal—an option Morocco, backed by Western powers, has long sought to impose as the sole basis for negotiations. Instead, the resolution opens a broader diplomatic space, enabling the Polisario Front to present its visions and proposals within the negotiation process.
Within this evolving context, the legitimate representative of the Sahrawi people has addressed a letter to the UN Secretary-General, expressing readiness to engage in direct negotiations with the other party to the conflict—the Moroccan occupation. The Polisario Front stressed, however, that any viable solution must unequivocally guarantee the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination. The movement reiterated its commitment to honouring the outcome of a free and fair referendum that reflects the will of the Sahrawi people.
In this spirit, Resolution 2797 reaffirms that the final settlement must ensure the Sahrawi people’s exercise of their inalienable right to self-determination. Consequently, the Moroccan autonomy plan cannot be imposed upon the Sahrawi population, which continues to enjoy the steadfast backing of the free nations of the world.
