Forging Shared Strategic Horizon: Tunisia, Algeria Renew Commitments to Deepen Bilateral Cooperation

Algiers – December 2025 – In Tunis, Tunisia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Tunisians Abroad, Mohamed Ali Nafti, reaffirmed on Thursday his country’s firm determination to expand and invigorate the bilateral cooperation framework with Algeria, in a manner that aligns with the aspirations of the two neighbouring and fraternal peoples. His remarks came as he co-chaired, alongside Algeria’s Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, the National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, the meeting of the Algerian-Tunisian Follow-Up Committee, convened in anticipation of the 23rd session of the Algerian-Tunisian Joint High Commission.
In his address, Nafti underscored “the depth of the human, social, and civilizational bonds that unite Algeria and Tunisia,” reiterating Tunisia’s commitment to “strengthening the dynamic of bilateral cooperation with Algeria in order to meet the aspirations of the two brotherly peoples.” This affirmation, he noted, mirrors the unwavering resolve of the two Heads of State — President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and President Kaïs Saïed — to consolidate fraternal ties, reinforce economic and political partnership, and advance a joint trajectory toward enhanced bilateral coordination.
Nafti emphasised that both leaders remain steadfast in their ambition to “reinforce the bonds of fraternity and partnership, and to pursue an approach oriented towards consolidating bilateral cooperation in the service of the shared interests of both nations, with a view to establishing a comprehensive and solidarity-driven partnership that responds to the expectations of the two fraternal peoples.” He stressed that this renewed dynamic represents a strategic opportunity to operationalise the will of the two presidents by accelerating consultation mechanisms, reviewing progress across all cooperation dossiers, and “exploring new perspectives for partnership.”
Turning to regional and international developments, the Tunisian Minister highlighted the imperative of “doubling collective efforts, unifying positions, and working more effectively to support shared security and promote inclusive and sustainable development.” He noted the “complete convergence” of viewpoints between Algiers and Tunis on key issues of peace and security, recalling that “there can be no peace as long as the just Palestinian cause remains unresolved and occupation persists.”
He further underlined the need to maintain close and continuous coordination between the two countries to assist “our Libyan brothers in reaching a peaceful settlement, free from any external interference in Libyan internal affairs.”
