Former Minister Nassim Diafat Sentenced to Heavy Prison Term for Corruption

ALGIERS- Former Minister Nassim Diafat, who held the position of Minister Delegate in charge of micro-enterprises, has been sentenced to a substantial five-year prison term by the penal, economic, and financial pole of the Sidi M’hamed tribunal  in Algeria.

Diafat’s brothers, Abdelmalek and Khaled Diafat, were also implicated in the case and have received two-year prison sentences each. Additionally, other individuals involved in the corruption scandal have been fined amounts ranging from 10 to 100 million Algerian dinars.

The charges against Nassim Diafat, which led to his imprisonment, stem from accusations of involvement in illicit activities including influence peddling, abuse of power, and misappropriation of public funds. These accusations emerged following statements made by the former Director-General of ALRIM, a state-owned company, further highlighting the depth and breadth of corruption within certain sectors of Algerian governance.
