Free Zone, Tindouf-Zouérat Road, and Border Crossings: President Tebboune’s Declarations

ALGIERS- President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, accompanied by his Mauritanian counterpart, Mohamed Ould Cheikh Ghazaouani, inaugurated two border crossings between Algeria and Mauritania, and launched projects to construct the Tindouf-Zouérat road and a free zone between the two countries in Tindouf on Thursday.

During the event, President Tebboune spoke about the forthcoming actions to strengthen exchanges between Algeria and Mauritania. He confirmed an agreement with his Mauritanian counterpart for an upcoming meeting gathering the Commerce Ministers of both countries to enhance cooperation and exchanges by establishing banks and facilitating the entry of goods and merchandise.

President Tebboune emphasized that Mauritanian products of identified origin would be marketed without tax, similarly to Algerian products. He called upon Mauritanian economic operators to invest in the free zone and benefit from tax and customs exemptions.

Regarding the Tindouf-Zouérat road, Tebboune asserted that it would facilitate the entry of Mauritanian and Algerian goods between the two countries.

On his part, the Mauritanian President highlighted that “the free trade zone will be a meeting place and a bridge for exchanges” between the two countries. He also commended Algeria’s efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation and underscored the importance of the road connecting the two brotherly nations.
