An Escalating Alliance of Repression: Rabat Abandons Arab Solidarity to Embrace Zionist Militarism and Suppress Legitimate Struggles for Liberation

Algiers, Algeria | May 26th, 2025 —  In a region long scarred by colonialism, betrayal takes many forms — but few as blatant and reprehensible as the Moroccan regime’s double-edged alliance: one that simultaneously tramples the rights of the Sahrawi people and abets the ongoing genocide of Palestinians under the Zionist entity’s brutal war machine. Far from being a mere foreign policy realignment, Morocco’s actions mark a historic moral collapse, revealing the true nature of a regime that has transformed into a functional satellite of neo-colonial and Zionist agendas.

This descent into the abyss of complicity cannot be cloaked under the pretext of diplomatic sovereignty. It is, instead, a calculated surrender of principle for political expediency — a convergence of Moroccan authoritarianism with the expansionist vision of the Zionist entity.

A Colonial Alliance: Repackaged and Rebranded

The Moroccan monarchy’s partnership with the Zionist regime is neither sudden nor superficial. Rather, it is the logical extension of a long history of covert cooperation now brought into the daylight with unprecedented boldness. Under the guise of normalization and so-called “strategic cooperation,” Rabat has opened its ports to Zionist warships, its airspace to intelligence coordination, and its territory to military exercises involving soldiers responsible for recent massacres in Gaza.

Such maneuvers are not merely symbolic. They represent the full integration of Morocco into a regional security matrix designed by Zionist and Western powers to undermine resistance movements and reconfigure sovereignty across North Africa and the Sahel. In this matrix, Morocco plays the role of an enabler — hosting the instruments of Palestinian repression while attempting to suffocate the Sahrawi quest for independence.

A Staged Farce in the Socialist International

The regime’s duplicity reached an appalling climax when it attempted to install a fabricated representative of Western Sahara at a session of the Socialist International hosted in Rabat. This move, executed in flagrant violation of the organization’s rules and with the backing of complicit elements in the Secretariat, sought to erase the legitimacy of the Polisario Front — the sole and recognized representative of the Sahrawi people.

But the attempt backfired. Progressive forces and diplomatic allies within the organization quickly moved to suspend the fraudulent representation, pending investigation. It was a symbolic and moral defeat for the Moroccan regime, which learned — yet again — that legitimacy cannot be bought or manipulated on the international stage.

Zionist Boots on Moroccan Soil

As bombs rained down on Gaza, turning neighborhoods into rubble and families into ashes, Moroccan soil hosted Israeli military units for the U.S.-sponsored “African Lion” exercises. Reports, notably from Middle East Eye, confirmed that the same Zionist units involved in war crimes in Gaza had boots on the ground in Morocco only weeks later.

This grotesque display was not a training mission — it was an ideological alignment. The Moroccan armed forces, instead of protecting their own people or confronting foreign aggression, became a silent backdrop to rehearsals of occupation, repression, and genocide.

Even UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese expressed shock at Rabat’s decision to cooperate with military elements accused of grave breaches of international humanitarian law. She described it as a “new low in moral degradation,” underscoring the extent to which Morocco is willing to compromise ethics for militarized partnerships.

A Deep-Rooted Collusion

Contrary to state-sponsored narratives, this alliance is not a product of recent geopolitical shifts. Declassified documents and credible historical accounts have exposed Morocco’s betrayal of Arab causes as early as the 1960s. During the 1967 Arab-Israeli war, King Hassan II notoriously provided secret recordings of Arab League meetings to the Mossad, directly contributing to Israel’s battlefield advantage.

What was once covert treachery is now institutional policy. Under the banner of the Abraham Accords and American blessing, Morocco has sealed arms deals with Israel, acquired advanced surveillance satellites, and signed intelligence-sharing agreements. This is not normalization — it is capitulation dressed in diplomatic attire.

Crushing Dissent, Silencing Resistance

The Moroccan regime’s partnership with the Zionist entity is not limited to foreign ventures. Internally, it has accelerated the repression of journalists, human rights defenders, and any citizen daring to oppose the normalization agenda. As Moroccan activist Yasser El-Abbadi remarked, “The Makhzen does what it pleases, ignoring the will of an overwhelming majority who reject normalization. It allies with murderers while jailing its own conscience.”

This repressive trajectory mirrors the practices of other authoritarian states aligned with Zionist and Western interests — regimes that fear their own people more than any foreign adversary. Their survival depends not on legitimacy, but on foreign sponsorship and militarized suppression.

Twin Struggles for Liberation

From the dunes of Western Sahara to the rubble of Gaza, the struggle is one and the same: a resistance against occupation, colonization, and normalization. The Sahrawi and Palestinian peoples are confronting not just external aggressors, but internal collaborators — regimes that sell out their causes for illusions of security and economic promises that never materialize.

Morocco’s failure to impose a fake Sahrawi representative on the Socialist International, and its exposure as a host to Zionist war criminals, positions it not merely as a passive observer of injustice, but as an active agent in maintaining occupation and eroding the right to self-determination.

A Reckoning on the Horizon

In a world awakening to injustice, the Moroccan regime stands increasingly isolated, its image tarnished by complicity and deceit. While it parades under the banners of stability and reform, its real legacy is written in the blood of innocents and the betrayal of sacred causes.

But memory is a powerful weapon. The oppressed remember — and resist. The moral tide of history does not favor regimes that trade their people’s dignity for drone surveillance and political handshakes with apartheid regimes.

In the face of this darkness, the unwavering defiance of the Polisario Front and the resilience of Palestinians under siege are more than acts of resistance. They are testaments to an unyielding truth: that no matter how many thrones are built on betrayal, the will of free people will not be extinguished.

The Moroccan regime has made its choice. Now the region, and history, must respond.
