Gaza Media Office Director Praises Algeria’s Unwavering Role in Defending the Palestinian Narrative

Algiers – November 2025 – During an intervention delivered Wednesday evening in a virtual conference organized by the National Union of Algerian Journalists and Information Professionals (UNJIA), the Director of the Gaza Media Office, Ismail Al-Thawabteh, paid tribute to Algeria’s steadfast commitment to the Palestinian cause, particularly in what he described as the battle for consciousness against the Zionist regime’s machinery of disinformation.

Speaking to participants via Zoom, Al-Thawabteh stressed that Algeria has served as “a genuine pillar of support” in confronting fabricated narratives and defending the truth of what is unfolding in Gaza. The event examined the state of Palestinian media in the aftermath of the aggression on the Gaza Strip, as well as the vital role of journalism in documenting war crimes and supporting international justice efforts.

Al-Thawabteh delivered a stark assessment of the devastation inflicted on the media sector, affirming that financial losses have exceeded 800 million dollars according to initial evaluations. He emphasized that “the Palestinian journalist has not merely been the reporter of the event; he has become the event itself.” Since the beginning of the assault on October 7, 2023, 256 Palestinian journalists have fallen as martyrs, 50 have been imprisoned, and over 420 have been injured, with many enduring life-altering wounds such as total paralysis or limb amputations while fulfilling their professional duties.

The occupation’s campaign, he insisted, has been systematic and deliberate: 12 newspaper and magazine headquarters were destroyed, along with 23 digital media platforms, 11 radio stations, and 16 television channels—a targeted attempt to silence Palestinian voices and prevent the transmission of truth.

Despite this unprecedented onslaught, Palestinian journalists “continued their work amid rubble and makeshift tents, braving relentless bombardment to convey the Palestinian reality and dismantle the occupation’s false narrative,” he said.

Turning to the international dimension of information warfare, Al-Thawabteh offered a heartfelt tribute to Algerian media professionals. He lauded their “unshakeable solidarity during the genocidal war,” noting that the Algerian press played a decisive role in bringing the Palestinian narrative into European public spaces and shifting Western public opinion from supporting the occupation to advocating for Palestinian freedom.

Al-Thawabteh called for a transition from simple expressions of solidarity to the construction of a resilient media consciousness capable of confronting erasure and falsification. As a strategic step, he proposed the establishment of a joint Algerian-Palestinian media observatory tasked with monitoring the ongoing information war and producing shared documentation to preserve the Palestinian memory in the face of systematic attempts to efface it.

In his intervention, Al-Thawabteh underscored that the struggle for truth is inseparable from the broader fight for justice and liberation—one in which Algeria continues to stand firmly alongside the Palestinian people.
