General Saïd Chanegriha: “Combat Readiness Remains the Cornerstone of Algeria’s Military Doctrine”

During the 18th session of the War College Orientation Council, the Army Chief of Staff reaffirmed the strategic importance of intensive training and operational readiness to safeguard Algeria’s sovereignty and reinforce its role as a regional power.

Algiers, Algeria | May 15th, 2025 —  In a powerful reaffirmation of Algeria’s defense doctrine, Army General Saïd Chanegriha, Minister Delegate to the Minister of National Defence and Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army (ANP), presided over the 18th session of the Orientation Council of the Higher War School, a crucial event aimed at reviewing and enhancing the nation’s military preparedness.

Delivering the keynote address, General Chanegriha emphasized that the High Command of the ANP attaches utmost strategic importance to combat readiness, describing it as a vital pillar for national defense in the face of evolving threats and unpredictable security challenges.

“We have always considered combat preparation and continuous military training as the decisive keys to mastering weapons systems and making full use of their capabilities,” he stated. “A soldier may possess the most sophisticated armaments, but without hands-on experience and rigorous training, he will be unfit to deal with the realities of combat.”

General Chanegriha underlined the ANP’s unwavering commitment to organizing intensive, realistic exercises tailored to simulate actual battlefield conditions. These drills, he stressed, are not merely routine but are designed to instill quick-response reflexes and sharpen the tactical and operational efficiency of all military personnel.

“That is why within the ANP, we place high value on combat training through rigorous and scenario-based exercises. We strive to embed within our troops the mental agility and technical readiness necessary to swiftly respond to any sudden developments, and to engage threats with both precision and resolve,” he said.

The Chief of Staff further highlighted the pivotal role of the Higher War School (École Supérieure de Guerre) in this ongoing modernization and strategic reinforcement effort. He described the institution as a center of military excellence tasked with producing innovative theoretical models and applied doctrines suited to contemporary defense demands.

“We rely heavily on this elite institution to contribute to the overall preparedness of our armed forces by developing new strategic paradigms and offering forward-thinking, practical solutions that ensure the ANP remains adaptable and ahead of the curve,” he noted.

In closing, General Chanegriha expressed high expectations for the School’s role in shaping the future of military thought in Algeria, urging it to maintain its pace in generating transformative ideas and training capable commanders for the challenges ahead.

“We place great hopes in the Higher War School to formulate novel, effective solutions to current and future challenges, thus reinforcing Algeria’s position as a regional power — vigilant, capable, and always ready to defend its sovereignty, stability, and vital interests,” he concluded.

This declaration reaffirms Algeria’s defense modernization agenda, blending doctrinal evolution with rigorous on-ground training, and upholding the army’s mission to preserve peace and national security amid a complex and shifting regional landscape.
