Algiers – November 2025 – In a meeting that underscores the growing strategic weight of Algeria in Europe’s evolving energy landscape, Energy and Renewable Energies Minister Mourad Adjal received Tobias Gotthardt, Secretary of State at the Bavarian Ministry of Economy, Regional Development and Energy, on Thursday in Algiers, accompanied by a German delegation. The encounter, attended by senior officials from the Algerian ministry, reaffirmed what Adjal described as the “depth of Algerian-German relations,” calling them “solid and longstanding,” while emphasizing Algeria’s clear commitment to strengthening cooperation with Germany, particularly in the vast and rapidly transforming energy sector.
Adjal highlighted Algeria’s “significant and diversified energy mix,” a strategic advantage that has long positioned the country as a “reliable partner” and a “key supplier of energy to Europe.” He presented a comprehensive overview of national capabilities spanning conventional and renewable energy, as well as the country’s expanding potential in nuclear energy and green hydrogen—two spheres that are increasingly central to global energy transitions and climate-driven strategies.
The minister detailed major national projects currently under way, including the ambitious program to generate 15,000 MW of renewable energy and the North–South electricity interconnection project, which is expected to facilitate the export of clean energy to Europe. These initiatives reflect Algeria’s intention to consolidate its role as a regional powerhouse and a future leader in sustainable energy.
For his part, Gotthardt expressed Germany’s “strong interest in launching robust economic partnerships with Algeria in the energy sector,” citing Europe’s rising demand for diversified, secure, and cleaner energy sources. He underscored Germany’s readiness to transfer its advanced technological expertise to Algeria “within a mutually beneficial framework,” reflecting Berlin’s recognition of Algeria as a strategic partner with high growth potential and a pivotal geographic position.
Both sides agreed to consider this meeting as a “starting point” for an enhanced bilateral cooperation process. They committed to organizing future consultation and exchange sessions to explore avenues for partnership, reinforce economic bridges, and establish long-term frameworks capable of responding to the strategic energy priorities of both nations.
