Global Cinema Revolts: Over 1,300 Filmmakers Boycott Zionist Entity for Genocide and Apartheid
✍️ BY: Dr. Hana Saada
Algiers – September 2025 – A moral earthquake is shaking the foundations of the global film industry. In an unprecedented collective stance, more than 1,300 international figures of cinema – among them Oscar, BAFTA, Emmy, and Cannes laureates – have announced a historic boycott of Zionist cultural institutions, denouncing their complicity in the genocidal war on Gaza and their role in perpetuating an entrenched system of apartheid.
The declaration, signed by actors, directors, producers, and technicians, makes it clear: cinema cannot serve as a whitewashed façade for a regime built on mass slaughter and dispossession. “At this urgent hour, when so many of our governments legitimize the carnage in Gaza, we refuse to be complicit. We will not collaborate with institutions that normalize or sanitize crimes of genocide,” the statement affirms.
The moral and legal gravity of the Palestinian case is underscored by rulings from the International Court of Justice, which has already recognized a plausible case of genocide against the Palestinian people. Unlike apartheid South Africa, which institutionalized racial segregation but stopped short of industrial-scale extermination, the Zionist entity combines both crimes: systematic discrimination and a genocidal campaign that has left Gaza in ruins.
The signatories, echoing the historic solidarity of filmmakers who once boycotted South Africa, vow to sever ties with Zionist festivals, production companies, cultural agencies, and distribution channels. They stress that art must not be weaponized as propaganda for colonialism or used to sanitize a state engaged in mass murder.
Among the prominent figures are Olivia Colman, Javier Bardem, Mark Ruffalo, Susan Sarandon, Tilda Swinton, Ken Loach, Riz Ahmed, and Juliet Stevenson – a constellation of artists who understand that neutrality in the face of genocide is complicity. Their voices transform the silver screen into a platform of resistance, reminding the world that cinema can mobilize consciences and amplify the call for justice.
Since October 2023, over 64,500 Palestinians – mostly women and children – have been slaughtered in Gaza in a campaign of extermination meticulously orchestrated by the Zionist war machine. The International Criminal Court has already issued arrest warrants against Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity. Meanwhile, the International Court of Justice continues proceedings against the Zionist state for genocide.
This boycott is more than a cultural gesture; it is a global act of defiance against impunity. The cinematic world is reclaiming its historic role as a moral and political force, as it once did against apartheid. But today, the stakes are even higher: the world is witnessing a genocide in real time, streamed to every screen, with the blood of Gaza’s children staining the conscience of humanity.
