Google Maps Exposes Rabat’s False Claims: Western Sahara’s Borders Remain Intact Despite Moroccan Propaganda
✍️ BY: Dr. Hana Saada
Algiers – November 2025 – The mask has once again fallen from Rabat’s deceptive face. In a humiliating blow to Moroccan propaganda, Google Maps has officially denied claims circulated by pro-Makhzen media alleging that the tech giant had removed the dotted lines separating Morocco from Western Sahara. The announcement, made on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, dismantled a carefully crafted falsehood that Moroccan outlets had flaunted as proof of an imaginary “recognition” of Moroccan sovereignty over the occupied territory.
A spokesperson for Google Maps stated unequivocally: “We have not made any changes to the maps of Morocco or Western Sahara. The dotted lines were simply not visible in Morocco, but they remain visible elsewhere—and continue to mark the distinction between the two territories.”
This declaration has not only restored factual clarity but has also struck a fatal blow to the Makhzen’s ongoing campaign of disinformation. The attempt to exploit a mere technical visualization glitch as a diplomatic triumph epitomizes the regime’s desperation to legitimize its illegal occupation of Western Sahara—a land whose people continue to struggle for their inalienable right to self-determination.
The truth, as always, surfaces. No manipulation of digital maps, no fabricated headlines, and no diplomatic maneuvering can erase the legal and political reality affirmed repeatedly by the United Nations: Western Sahara remains a non-self-governing territory awaiting decolonization. The Security Council’s resolutions have not—and will not—endorse Morocco’s occupation, which stands in violation of international law and the principles of justice and freedom.
The latest embarrassment exposes, once again, the fragility of Rabat’s narrative. While the Makhzen regime celebrates illusions, the international community recognizes the enduring legitimacy of the Sahrawi cause. The people of Western Sahara continue to resist, steadfast in their pursuit of liberation from colonial oppression and economic exploitation.
This episode also underscores the growing global awareness surrounding the Moroccan occupation and the unrelenting efforts by independent voices, activists, and free nations—including Algeria—to defend the Sahrawi people’s right to independence.
Google’s clarification is more than a technological correction; it is a resounding reaffirmation of truth against propaganda. It stands as a digital testament that the borders of Western Sahara—though occupied—remain recognized, visible, and indisputable.
In the end, the Makhzen’s lies have only deepened its own isolation. Western Sahara’s destiny is clear: the return to freedom, sovereignty, and dignity, when the last vestiges of colonial domination are swept away by the will of its resilient people.
