Algeria’s Largest Rubber Tire Manufacturing Project Integrates Industry 4.0 Technologies and Creates Over 2,000 Jobs

Algiers, Algeria | June 22nd, 2025 — In a landmark stride for Algeria’s industrial advancement, Hadj Larbi Industrie (SHLI) has awarded the second phase of its flagship tire manufacturing complex in Tafraoui, Oran, to national civil engineering company EG REKIMA. The development, located in the El Hamoul industrial zone, is part of a strategic investment totaling 50 billion Algerian dinars, making it the largest tire production facility currently underway in Algeria.

The contract covers the construction of the “Major Rubber Mixing Unit”, a central component of the complex. This stage marks a decisive step in SHLI’s roadmap to modernize Algeria’s rubber and automotive industries.

The factory will integrate Fourth Industrial Revolution (Industry 4.0) technologies, including AI, robotics, and full automation, in partnership with the Chinese tire manufacturing powerhouse DOUBLESTAR TIRE, aiming to deliver high-quality output at reduced operational costs while meeting global standards.

The facility’s initial annual capacity is set at 7 million tires, with 1 million designated for heavy-duty vehicles. Upon full operationalization of all satellite production units across Algeria, the company aims to scale up to 22 million tires annually by 2026.

Despite the technical complexities of building on a site marked by clayey and marshy terrain, which led to a doubling of development costs, SHLI is adhering to its construction timeline, with project completion anticipated by the end of 2026.

This strategic initiative will generate over 2,000 direct jobs, significantly reduce Algeria’s dependency on imported tires, and enhance the nation’s export capacities, especially in support of the booming automotive sector.

SHLI has also announced upcoming tenders for the construction of both the “Main Manufacturing Unit” and the “Raw Materials Workshop”, underscoring its commitment to global engineering standards and national economic development.
