Hamlaoui Hosts U.S. Ambassador in Algiers

Algiers, Algeria | July 8th, 2025 — Ibtissem Hamlaoui, President of the National Observatory of Civil Society (ONSC), received U.S. Ambassador to Algeria, Elizabeth Moore Aubin, on Tuesday, according to a statement released by the ONSC.

The meeting falls within the broader framework of enhancing cooperation and dialogue between the ONSC and its international partners, the statement noted.

Discussions during the meeting centered on support mechanisms for civil society and ways to promote the participation of women and youth in associative activities, with a particular focus on training, local management, and support of grassroots initiatives.

Hamlaoui emphasized Algeria’s commitment to fostering international partnerships that contribute to capacity building for civil society actors and to the consolidation of dialogue, active citizenship, and inclusive participation.

In her remarks, Ambassador Aubin praised the ONSC’s pioneering role and recent dynamic progress, describing the institution as an “inspiring institutional model” for the organization of associative work and for energizing civil society in Algeria.

The statement concluded by reaffirming the mutual commitment to cooperation in areas that promote civic engagement and sustainable civil society development.
