Algiers – September 2025 – In a move reaffirming Algeria’s determination to strengthen the role of its civil society within and beyond its borders, Ibtissem Hamlaoui, President of the National Observatory of Civil Society (ONSC), held a high-level meeting with Noureddine Amirouche, President of the Italian-based volunteer association Un Bastone per l’Africa. The encounter, announced yesterday in a statement by the ONSC, provided a platform to examine mechanisms of cooperation and to map out practical frameworks through which the Algerian diaspora can bolster the country’s associative and development efforts.
The discussions focused on ways to integrate the expertise of Algerian professionals abroad into national initiatives, ensuring that their knowledge and experiences contribute meaningfully to the strengthening of civil society structures. The Observatory stressed that such synergies are fully aligned with its strategic objectives of fostering an inclusive, dynamic, and globally connected civil society.
Both parties highlighted the strategic importance of valorizing Algerian competencies abroad, not only as engines of associative action but also as ambassadors of Algeria’s achievements on the regional and international stage. This approach underscores the dual mission of diaspora engagement: enhancing domestic social development while elevating Algeria’s image worldwide.
