Hamza Benhamouda: “Air Algérie Will Offer Affordable Fares, Expand Capacity, and Strengthen Operations Through Holding Restructuring

Algiers – December 2025 – Air Algérie, the national carrier, is undertaking a comprehensive reorganization aimed at transforming into a holding structure to strengthen operational efficiency, optimize its subsidiaries, and benefit from the fiscal and operational advantages inherent to this corporate model, announced CEO Hamza Benhamouda.
In an exclusive interview with the APS, Benhamouda highlighted that “since its inception, Air Algérie has developed extensive expertise across all aviation sectors, earning international recognition from certification bodies and professional associations, of which our national airline is a proud member.”
The reorganization includes the consolidation of existing subsidiaries such as Catering, Cargo, Amadeus Algérie, and the newly established Domestic Airlines. Additionally, two new subsidiaries focused on ground handling and professional training—Air Algérie Ground Operations and the Aviation Academy—are scheduled to commence operations in January 2026. Benhamouda further confirmed that the restructuring will continue with the filialization of maintenance operations and the establishment of a new tour-operator activity, emphasizing that the holding model will confer strategic fiscal and operational advantages to the airline.
Projected Passenger Growth to 8.5 Million in 2025
The airline transported nearly 8 million passengers in 2024 and projects an increase to 8.5 million passengers in 2025, excluding Domestic Airlines, which anticipates serving 1.5 million passengers, Benhamouda stated.
To meet rising demand, particularly during peak seasons, Air Algérie has increased daily flights by one-third, exceeding 320 daily flights in summer 2025 compared to 230 flights during the same period in 2024. “This massive operational effort occasionally caused schedule disruptions, inconveniencing our clients, but the introduction of new aircraft will progressively resolve these issues,” the CEO explained.
Regarding service enhancement and competitive pricing, Benhamouda underscored Air Algérie’s commitment to providing affordable travel options for Algerians domestically and internationally, without compromising onboard comfort and passenger safety. “Achieving this balance is particularly challenging given the intense competition on our most profitable routes,” he added.
Moreover, the development of commercial agreements with leading global carriers will further diversify and enrich the airline’s offerings, benefiting its clientele. Benhamouda concluded by affirming, “This is the role of our national flag carrier. Air Algérie embraces this responsibility with pride and conviction, continuing to offer the best possible fares, supported by the state and the dedication of our personnel at every stopover.”
