Henley Index: Algerian Passport Grants Access to 55 Destinations Without Prior Visa

Algiers, Algeria– Tuesday, July 29, 2025 | The latest quarterly update of the Henley Passport Index, released on July 22, 2025, by the London-based firm Henley & Partners, ranks the Algerian passport 81st globally, offering visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 55 countries.

Despite moderate global mobility, Algeria finds itself in the lower half of the African rankings, standing at 34th place out of 54 African countries, on par with Mali. At the bottom of the continental list are Eritrea, Libya, and Somalia, whose citizens face the most travel restrictions.

At the top of the African rankings, the Seychelles maintains its lead with a passport granting access to 156 destinations either without a visa or with simplified procedures. Globally, it ranks 25th. It is closely followed by Mauritius in 27th place worldwide, whose passport allows entry into 149 destinations. South Africa, with access to 103 countries, holds the 48th global position.

On the global scale, Singapore continues to dominate the index, with its passport providing visa-free access to 193 destinations—the highest worldwide. Trailing behind are the passports of Japan, South Korea, and Denmark.

The Henley Passport Index evaluates 199 passports and 227 travel destinations, relying primarily on data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA). The index takes into account not only countries where visa-free entry is granted but also those offering visas on arrival, electronic travel authorizations (eTAs), or simplified entry permits.
