High-Level Commission Established for Film Depicting Emir Abdelkader

Comprising historians and distinguished figures from the world of cinema, the commission’s installation follows the establishment of the public entity “Al Djazaïri for the Production, Distribution, and Exploitation of the Film on Emir Abdelkader.” This entity, placed under the auspices of the Prime Minister, is mandated to “produce, distribute, and exploit the cinematic film dedicated to Emir Abdelkader,” as outlined in Decree No. 21-413, published in the Official Gazette, issue number 81, dated October 24, 2021.

The commission has been entrusted with the responsibility of evaluating and enhancing the criteria for selecting the film’s screenplay. Additionally, it will assess and approve screenplay submissions submitted through an international competition, according to the official statement.

In cases where additional expertise is required, the commission has the authority to seek the assistance of experts and specialists to contribute to the enrichment and completion of this project. This move is part of ongoing preparations for the launch of an international film production project that pays homage to Emir Abdelkader.

It is noteworthy that this decision coincides with Algeria commemorating the 191st anniversary of the first allegiance to Emir Abdelkader, emphasizing the historical significance and resonance of this cinematic tribute. The establishment of the commission reflects the commitment of the Algerian government to preserving and promoting the legacy of Emir Abdelkader through the art of film, ensuring a meticulous and inclusive approach to the portrayal of this iconic historical figure.
