Higher Education and Scientific Research: Kamel Baddari Inaugurates a State-of-the-Art Data Center

Algiers, Algeria– Tuesday, July 29, 2025 | Algeria has taken a pivotal step toward realizing its digital ambitions with the official inauguration of a cutting-edge data center dedicated to artificial intelligence applications. On Tuesday, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Kamel Baddari, visited the new facility, housed within the National School of Artificial Intelligence (ENSIA) in Algiers.

Announced via the Minister’s official Facebook page, the project is designed to provide a high-performance computing environment equipped with state-of-the-art graphical processing units, notably NVIDIA’s H100, L40S, and A40 models. These advanced tools are made available to students and researchers to support the development and training of AI models, all within an open-source software ecosystem.

According to Baddari, this infrastructure will serve as a catalyst for innovation across key sectors. It aims to accelerate progress in critical fields such as large language model (LLM) development, advanced computer vision, and domain-specific applications in agriculture, industry, finance, and public services.

This strategic direction—centered on open-source technologies—fortifies the school’s role as a national hub of excellence in knowledge creation. It also enhances the institution’s mission to cultivate a new generation of digital experts capable of spearheading Algeria’s technological transformation and contributing to a sovereign, resilient digital infrastructure.

The Minister underscored that the center was constructed in accordance with international standards regarding energy efficiency, cybersecurity, and future scalability. This foundational design ensures the sustainability of its operations and its capacity to keep pace with the rapidly evolving landscape of artificial intelligence.
