Higher Education Pushes Innovation Forward: 23 Student Projects Awarded National Innovation Labels

Algiers – November 2025 – Algeria’s drive to cultivate a new generation of innovators has taken another decisive step this week as twenty-three innovative student projects were officially granted the national “Innovation Label,” a distinction that positions their concepts for potential incubation, funding, and future market readiness. The announcement was made in a communiqué issued by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, reaffirming the government’s ambitious strategy to create 20,000 startups and microenterprises by 2029.

The students recognized through this initiative represent a broad academic spectrum drawn from several of the nation’s leading institutions. Among them are students from the Houari Boumediene University of Science and Technology (USTHB), the universities of Oum El Bouaghi, Tizi Ouzou, Blida 2, Djelfa, Tiaret, and the Mohamed Boudiaf University of Science and Technology in Oran (USTO). Additional recipients hail from the universities of Sidi Bel Abbès, Mila, Médéa, Relizane, Sétif 1 “Ferhat Abbas,” Batna 2, Chlef, as well as the École Normale Supérieure (ENS) of Kouba and the École Nationale Supérieure de Management (ENSM).

This broad geographic and institutional representation underscores a growing culture of innovation across the national higher-education ecosystem. The awarding of these labels is more than a symbolic gesture; it reflects a structured policy to empower students, valorize their creativity, and ensure that universities are not only spaces of knowledge acquisition but also genuine incubators of entrepreneurial potential.

Central to these efforts is the national challenge “Proto Market,” an initiative launched by the Ministry of Higher Education to transform creative student ideas into tangible, viable prototypes. The challenge is designed to catalyze entrepreneurial thinking, providing students with the necessary environment, mentorship, and tools to transition from conceptualization to realization.
