ALGIERS- Algeria strongly condemned the desecration of the Holy Quran by Swedish extremists, who burned a copy of the sacred book in front of the Great Mosque of Stockholm. The Algerian government expressed its outrage and denounced the act as heinous and irresponsible.
In an official press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad, Algeria expressed its unequivocal condemnation of the incident. The Algerian government criticized the Swedish authorities for granting permission to the extremists to organize a demonstration that led to this provocative act.
The press release stated, “Algeria condemns in the strongest terms the burning of a copy of the Holy Quran by Swedish extremists in front of the Great Mosque in Stockholm after the Swedish authorities gave them permission to organize a demonstration to commit this heinous and irresponsible act.”
Moreover, the Algerian government emphasized its rejection of such incidents, particularly as this act occurred on the first day of Eid Al-Adha, a significant religious occasion for Muslims worldwide. The desecration was seen as an intentional effort to incite hatred, offend the religious sentiments of Muslims, and undermine the fundamental values of freedom and humanism that societies are built upon.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated its commitment to defending the values of tolerance, dialogue, and coexistence. Algeria called for a united effort to reject extremism and prevent the offense to all religions and their sanctities.
“Algeria confirms its total rejection of this provocative incident, committed on the first day of Eid Al-Adha, and stresses that these shameful and repeated practices aim to stir up hatred and provoke the religious feelings of Muslims and offend seriously the values of freedom on which societies are based, with the values of humanism that they carry,” the press release stated.
Algeria’s response to this incident reflects its firm stance against acts that incite religious animosity and undermine the principles of peaceful coexistence. The Algerian government’s condemnation serves as a reminder of the importance of respecting religious beliefs and promoting harmonious relations among diverse communities.
