IATF 2025: Algeria and El Sewedy Electric Seal $2.5 Billion Investment Pact to Build Ten Industrial Plants

Algiers – September 2025 – Algeria has taken a decisive step towards consolidating its industrial sovereignty and strengthening its economic leadership in Africa with the signing of a landmark $2.5 billion investment protocol between the National Agency for Investment Promotion and El Sewedy Electric Algérie. The agreement, formalized on the sidelines of the 4th Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF 2025) in Algiers, lays the groundwork for the construction of ten industrial plants that will anchor Algeria’s long-term ambitions for technological advancement and industrial self-sufficiency.
The signing ceremony, attended by Mohamed Arkab, Minister of State, Minister of Energy, Mines, and Renewable Energies, alongside Kamel Rezig, Minister of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion, and Kamel Moula, President of the Algerian Council for Economic Renewal (CREA), underscored the strategic significance of this initiative. The protocol was sealed by Omar Rekkache, Director General of ANAPI, and Moustapha Awad El Halouani, CEO of El Sewedy Electric Algérie, in what has been described as a milestone in Algeria’s industrial roadmap.
At the heart of the agreement lies a forward-looking strategy aimed at establishing an integrated industrial base in Algeria, focused on the transfer of cutting-edge technology, the development of robust electrical infrastructure, and the enhancement of local capacities. For Minister Arkab, this initiative is more than a financial transaction—it is a qualitative addition to Algeria’s national economy, reflecting the government’s unwavering commitment to fostering local content and positioning Algerian enterprises as dynamic players in African markets.
El Halouani, speaking on behalf of El Sewedy Electric Algérie, affirmed that the group’s long-term commitment to Algeria stems from the country’s attractive investment climate, its vast potential, and its pivotal role as a gateway to African trade. He emphasized that the project will cover multiple industrial sectors, including renewable energy, aligning perfectly with Algeria’s drive for diversification and sustainable growth.
Beyond the protocol, Minister Arkab used the occasion to tour the exhibition halls of IATF 2025, where he praised the strong African participation as evidence of a growing continental economic integration. He highlighted the Algerian pavilions of Sonatrach, Sonelgaz, and Sonarem, lauding their contributions as strategic pillars of energy and mining development, not only for Algeria but also for Africa at large.
The minister further stressed the symbolic and practical importance of Algeria’s participation in IATF 2025, describing the fair as a vital platform for advancing the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). By reinforcing Algeria’s credentials as both a supplier of high-quality products and a hub of technical expertise, Arkab reaffirmed the nation’s role as an investment and economic powerhouse on the continent.
