Algiers – September 2025 – The fourth edition of the Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF 2025) has emerged as a defining platform for Algeria’s economic diplomacy, with Algerian companies sealing contracts worth more than $300 million with African partners. These agreements, concluded on Monday in Algiers, underscore Algeria’s ambition to position itself as a pivotal player in intra-African trade and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

At the forefront of the signings, Madar Holding finalized a landmark $180 million deal with a Libyan partner for the export of refined sugar, while the Souakri Group entered into a $51 million contract with another Libyan firm to supply cement by both land and sea for a period of one year. The ceremony was attended by Omar Rekkache, Director General of the Algerian Agency for the Promotion of Investment (AAPI), and Kamel Moula, President of the Algerian Council for Economic Renewal (CREA), both of whom emphasized the strategic importance of these deals for Algeria’s export diversification.

Meanwhile, Condor Group secured six agreements amounting to $80 million annually with partners from Côte d’Ivoire, Senegal, Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, and Mauritania. These contracts were signed during a high-level workshop organized by the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) under the theme: “Empowering African Entrepreneurs: Accelerating Infrastructure Development in Africa.”

Opening the workshop, Minister of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion Kamel Rezig underlined that the IATF provides a unique opportunity to enhance continental cooperation and realize Africa’s shared aspirations for sustainable growth. Stressing the critical role of infrastructure as the backbone of economic renaissance, Rezig highlighted Algeria’s efforts to strengthen its logistics base and foster public-private partnerships to accelerate integration within Africa. “Algeria has transformed itself from an importer into one of Africa’s leading exporters of construction materials, from cement and ceramics to steel products and plasterboards,” he declared, noting that this transition reflects not only industrial capability but also a renewed economic vision.

The transport sector also witnessed breakthroughs. Minister of Transport Saïd Sayoud announced the signing of multiple maritime transport agreements on the sidelines of the fair, describing the outcomes as “positive and promising.” He further revealed that Algeria has implemented a 24/7 operational system in ten ports, significantly reducing ship waiting times in major ports such as Algiers, Oran, Béjaïa, and Jijel. A modernization plan is also underway to equip Algerian ports with advanced handling technologies, alongside ongoing negotiations with global specialists to develop high-value partnerships that enhance port productivity.

Sayoud also confirmed the launch of a specialization program for Algerian ports, in line with directives from President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, with key announcements expected in the coming days. On the aviation front, he indicated that Air Algérie is actively preparing to open new routes, reinforcing Algeria’s connectivity with African markets.

With strong attendance and sustained momentum four days after its official inauguration by President Tebboune, the IATF 2025 in Algiers is already being heralded as a turning point. It is not merely a trade fair, but a stage upon which Algeria is articulating its economic leadership, advancing South-South cooperation, and cementing its role as a driving force for African integration.
