IATF 2025: Algeria’s Tafadis Secures Landmark $180 Million Sugar Export Deal with Libya

Algiers – September 2025 – Algerian state-owned and private enterprises continue to consolidate their footprint on the African economic landscape, with a string of strategic agreements being sealed on the sidelines of the 4th Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF 2025), hosted in Algiers from September 4 to 10. Among the most significant of these deals, Tafadis Sugar Refinery—a subsidiary of Madar Holding—has secured a landmark contract to supply Libya with 360,000 tonnes of refined sugar.
The agreement, valued at $180 million, provides for the shipment of twelve full cargoes of refined sugar destined for Libyan markets. This transaction not only underscores Algeria’s growing capacity to meet large-scale regional demand but also signals a decisive step in expanding the nation’s export portfolio within Africa’s fast-growing consumer markets.
Industry observers note that such an achievement reflects the strategic alignment between Algeria’s domestic industrial investments and its continental trade ambitions. With the full backing of national institutions engaged in foreign commerce, the contract positions Algeria as a reliable supplier for essential commodities and strengthens its trade corridors with both neighboring and distant African partners.
Officials from Madar Holding have emphasized that the deal with Libya is far more than a bilateral commercial exchange. It is, in essence, a strategic foothold that will facilitate broader market penetration into Africa, reinforcing Algeria’s role as a key player in intra-African trade and contributing to the objectives of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
