IATF 2025: President Tebboune Welcomes African Leaders Ahead of Landmark Continental Trade Fair

Algiers – September 2025 –  Algiers became the epicenter of African diplomacy and economic ambition on Wednesday evening as it welcomed a series of high-profile leaders arriving to participate in the inauguration of the Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF 2025), set to open this Thursday at the Exhibition Palace in Pins Maritimes.

In a demonstration of Algeria’s unwavering commitment to continental partnership, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune personally welcomed Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Déby upon his arrival this Wednesday at Algiers International Airport.

This high-level encounter goes beyond protocol, underscoring the strategic depth of Algerian-Chadian relations. Both nations, bound by shared geopolitical interests and a common African destiny, are determined to scale up their cooperation within the framework of economic diversification, trade facilitation, and regional integration. The IATF 2025, regarded as a flagship event for African economic convergence, offers an ideal platform to reinforce this vision by bringing together political leaders, economic operators, and investors from across the continent.

President Tebboune’s reception of his Chadian counterpart carries strong symbolic and practical resonance. It highlights Algeria’s pivotal role in championing intra-African solidarity, while also affirming Chad’s determination to expand its economic partnerships and secure a more prominent position in Africa’s emerging trade architecture.

Among the distinguished guests was Tunisian President Kais Saied, who landed in Algiers at the start of the evening. His presence underscores the strong ties between Algeria and Tunisia, rooted in a shared vision of regional integration and reinforced cooperation within the framework of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). President Saied’s participation is seen as a reaffirmation of Tunisia’s commitment to advancing intra-African trade and harnessing collective economic potential.

Shortly afterward, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune personally received his Mauritanian counterpart, Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, at Houari Boumediene International Airport. The two heads of state reviewed detachments of the Republican Guard of the Algerian People’s National Army, who rendered them full honors. Accompanied by a senior delegation, President El Ghazouani’s visit reflects Mauritania’s determination to deepen bilateral and continental economic ties, particularly in the context of an event described as Africa’s premier trade and investment platform.

Later in the evening, President Tebboune also welcomed the Chairman of the Libyan Presidential Council, Mohamed Younes El-Menfi, marking another important milestone in Algeria’s role as a bridge for regional cooperation. El-Menfi’s arrival highlights Libya’s active engagement in Africa’s economic resurgence and its readiness to contribute to the continent’s broader integration agenda.

These successive arrivals illustrate not only the significance of the IATF 2025 as a continental trade fair but also its role as a diplomatic summit of unprecedented magnitude. The presence of multiple African heads of state in Algiers is emblematic of a shared continental aspiration: to accelerate the transformation of Africa’s vast potential into tangible opportunities for growth, development, and prosperity.

The fair, co-organized by Afreximbank in partnership with Algeria, will run from September 4 to 10, bringing together over 2,000 exhibitors and 35,000 participants from across Africa and beyond. Under the theme “Transforming Africa’s Potential into Concrete Opportunities”, the event is designed to consolidate the momentum of the AfCFTA, foster cross-border investments, and promote Africa’s emergence as a unified, competitive player in global trade.

As the red carpets rolled out at Algiers International Airport, the message was unmistakable: Algeria is not only hosting a trade fair but also positioning itself at the forefront of Africa’s economic integration and leadership.
