Algiers – December 2025 – In a move that underscores the accelerating momentum of Algerian-Spanish economic convergence, a high-level delegation from PortCastelló (Port of Castellón) concluded a working visit to Algiers, where it held intensive meetings with Algerian economic operators. The visit, driven by a shared aspiration to expand cooperation across logistical, maritime and industrial domains, represents a new step toward reinforcing Algeria’s non-hydrocarbon export strategy, one of the key priorities outlined by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
Speaking to Dzair Tube on the sidelines of the event, Mohamed Moncef Bouderba, President of the Association of Ceramic and Porcelain Manufacturers, expressed deep appreciation to the Spanish delegation and to PortCastelló, which he described as a long-standing partner in Algeria’s external trade network. He emphasized that such encounters fall squarely within the national agenda of strengthening non-hydrocarbon commerce, a central pillar of Algeria’s economic restructuring efforts. According to Bouderba, the quality and maturity of Algerian products—particularly in industrial and agricultural sectors—have reached a level that allows local exporters to confidently pursue “win-win” partnerships with actors in Spain, Italy, and across the wider Mediterranean basin.
He further highlighted Algeria’s advantageous geostrategic position as a gateway between African and European markets, noting that this geographic leverage constitutes a “significant opportunity” for boosting Algeria’s industrial competitiveness and reclaiming its rightful place in Mediterranean and European trade circuits.
Tarek Boulmerka, President of the National Exporters Association, also welcomed the initiative, stating: “I had the honour of being invited by the representatives of PortCastelló, who presented a highly valuable overview of the port’s services. What they offer is particularly compelling for Algerian exporters—especially with preferential rates that include reductions of up to 40% on export operations. A container that normally costs 500 or 600 euros can be shipped for just 200 euros. This is extremely encouraging and provides a strong incentive to intensify export activities.”
Boulmerka noted that Algerian ports—specifically Algiers, Skikda, and the strategic port of Djen Djen—already maintain direct maritime links with PortCastelló. He urged Algeria’s exporters to integrate themselves more actively into this growing logistical network.
For his part, PortCastelló Director Manuel José García Navarro extended his gratitude to the Algerian Minister of Transport, the Port Services Management Company, and all maritime operators for their warm welcome and constructive engagement. He underscored that this visit marks the second official mission by PortCastelló to Algeria, following the initial visit last year. “If we compare last year with this year,” he noted, “we now have an operational maritime line connecting PortCastelló directly to Algeria, which signals a concrete evolution in our cooperation.”
