In a development widely regarded as a watershed in Algeria’s media evolution, Maamar Gani, Chairman and CEO of the leading national media group Dzair Tube, has welcomed President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s landmark decision to incorporate accredited digital press outlets into the framework governing public procurement advertising. He described the measure as “a tangible testament to the President’s sincerity in honouring his pledges to consolidate the institutions of the New Algeria.”

In his remarks to Akhbar El Watan, Gani underscored that the initiative not only cements the status of digital journalism as a cornerstone of the national media architecture, but also secures vital financial lifelines to guarantee its sustainability and safeguard its independence. This, he stressed, directly reinforces the dignity and livelihoods of journalists and their families, echoing the Head of State’s unwavering principle that “the dignity of the citizen is a red line.”

Gani observed that the decision fortifies editorial autonomy by insulating digital outlets from external pressures or inducements. He recalled that his own organisation had remained unswervingly loyal to Algeria through periods of adversity, guided by the patriotism and professional integrity of its editorial staff.

Significantly, the reform also places online journalism on equal footing with the print press, dismantling entrenched inequalities and reflecting a presidential vision committed to nurturing media pluralism and diversity. Such parity, Gani noted, is indispensable for fostering a balanced, competitive, and representative public sphere.

The measure’s implications extend well beyond fiscal stability. By enabling digital platforms to modernise technical infrastructure, enhance content standards, and strengthen institutional credibility, it is poised to attract strategic investment, stimulate job creation, and elevate the competitive bar for delivering rigorous, high-quality journalism.

Concluding on an optimistic note, Gani affirmed that this historic move vindicates “the sacrifices and struggles of the online press” and proves they have not been in vain. He lauded President Tebboune’s fidelity to his commitments, expressing confidence that further forward-looking policies will entrench the role of principled, patriotic digital media in advancing the nation’s democratic and developmental aspirations.
