In invoking the memory of Algeria’s pioneering generation of journalists—those who wielded the pen alongside the rifle during the anti-colonial liberation struggle—the article outlines a vision for contemporary media rooted in resistance and honor. “The supreme mission of our media,” the article stresses, “must be to defend Algeria’s sovereignty, security, and stability, echoing the legacy of the first generation of Algerian journalists who fought colonial oppression with their words and convictions, shoulder to shoulder with their armed brethren.”

According to El Djeich, defending the homeland in today’s era of hybrid warfare, psychological operations, and digital manipulation demands far more than military readiness. It requires “a collective awakening and mobilization of all sincere sons and daughters of the Nation,” as well as a bold, unified, and uncompromising media strategy.

The editorial makes it clear that the battle lines have shifted. In modern-day conflict, where information can destabilize faster than bombs, “the preservation of national security and stability is now also the responsibility of every citizen, and particularly those who hold a voice in the media.” The shift in the nature of global conflict, the article warns, “requires intensified, coordinated, and unified efforts to confront all threats—regardless of their source or form.”

In no uncertain terms, El Djeich accuses Algeria’s enemies—foreign and domestic—of harboring a deep-seated envy and hostility toward the country’s sovereign path and independent stance. “The Algerian people,” it asserts, “remain an impenetrable bulwark against those who question the unity and integrity of the Nation.” This unshakable cohesion, the piece argues, has long frustrated the agendas of those who seek to sow chaos and discord in the country.
