India Navy Saryu class patrol vessel INS Sumedha visits Algeria

ALGIERS-  The Saryu class patrol vessel INS Sumedha, deployed in the Mediterranean Sea, visited Algiers, Algeria, to strengthen bilateral ties & enhance maritime cooperation, according to a tweet published by the Indian MoD on March 28, 2023 and quoted by navyrecognition news website.

 

 

The Saryu class patrol vessel has a displacement of 2,230 tons and measures 105 meters in length and 12.9 meters in beam. It has a draft of 4.9 meters.

The propulsion system consists of two Pielstick PA 6B STC diesel engines with a combined output of 21,725 PS, allowing it to reach speeds of up to 25 knots (46 km/h).

The vessel is equipped with various sensors and processing systems, including a Sperry Bridgemaster I-band navigation radar and an EON-51 electro-optical fire control system.

The vessel also has an electronic support system called the Sanket Mk III and a communication intelligence system called the ELK 7036. To counter threats, the vessel has four Kavach chaff launchers.

The armament of the vessel includes a single 76 mm/62 Oto Melara gun and two 30 mm/65 AK-630 close-in weapon systems. The vessel can also carry one HAL Dhruv helicopter.

The vessel has a complement of 16 officers and 102 sailors. With a range of 6,000 nautical miles (11,000 km) at 16 knots (30 km/h), the offshore patrol vessel is suitable for extended missions and operations.

Earlier,  the Algerian National Navy’s Type 056 corvette El Moutassadi visited Mumbai, according to a  tweet published by the Indian Ministry of Defense on March 16, 2023, and quoted by navyrecognition news website.

The Type 056 corvette, a class of warship that is currently in service with the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN), has a displacement of 1,500 tons and measures 90 meters (300 ft) in length and 11.14 meters (36.5 ft) in beam. Its draft is 4 meters (13 ft).

The ship is powered by two SEMT Pielstick PA6-STC diesel motors, allowing it to reach a maximum speed of 25 knots (46 km/h; 29 mph) with a range of 3,500 nautical miles (6,500 km; 4,000 mi) at 16 knots (30 km/h; 18 mph). The crew consists of 78 personnel.

The corvette is equipped with a variety of sensors and processing systems, including a Type 360 air/surface search radar, a Type 347G fire control radar, a bow sonar, and a towed array and variable depth sonar (Type 056A).

For armament, the ship has a single AK-176 76 mm gun, two H/PJ-17 30 mm autocannons, two 2-cell YJ-83 anti-ship missiles amidships, an 8-cell FL-3000N SAM launcher, and two triple 324 mm torpedo tubes. Additionally, she has a helipad capable of accommodating one medium-lift helicopter, such as the Harbin Z-9.
