The dinner followed a high-level business forum organized by the Algerian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CACI) in Algiers. It provided an informal yet strategic platform for dialogue on strengthening economic ties, promoting trade, and exploring investment opportunities with globally competitive economies.

The CACI forum had brought together Algerian economic operators alongside a broad delegation of Indian counterparts to explore concrete opportunities for cooperation, partnership, and direct investment across a wide range of sectors, against the backdrop of a marked upswing in bilateral relations and a business climate described by participants as promising and conducive to growth.

The dinner welcomed the Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) delegation, representing multiple sectors, alongside senior Algerian officials: Mr. Chakib Smail Kouidri, Director General of the Centre for the Advancement of Commerce and Investment (CACI); Ms. Sihem Nafaa, Director of Promotion and Support for Economic Exchanges at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs; Ms. Amel Medjbar, Deputy Director; Mr. Lounes Hadji, Deputy Director for Asia and Oceania; and the Presidents of the Chambers of Commerce of Batna, Bechar, and Ghardaia.

In her address, Ambassador Dr. Swati Vijay Kulkarni emphasized the importance of mutual engagement in trade, industrial collaboration, and knowledge exchange between Algeria and India. The discussions underscored Algeriaโ€™s ongoing efforts to diversify its economy beyond hydrocarbons, offering targeted incentives to attract foreign investment, including facilitation of business processes, regulatory support, and infrastructure development to create a favorable investment climate.

The meeting occurred amid a broader backdrop of Indiaโ€™s strong economic performance. Moodyโ€™s Ratings, a leading international credit rating agency that evaluates economic performance and financial stability worldwide, projects that India will remain the fastest-growing G20 economy in the fiscal year 2026โ€“27, with a projected GDP growth of 6.4%, supported by resilient domestic consumption, ongoing structural reforms, and a stable banking sector. While unrelated to the Embassyโ€™s event, Indiaโ€™s projected growth highlights the type of dynamic, high-growth markets Algeria aims to engage with as it opens its doors to strategic foreign investment.

For its part, Algeriaโ€™s economy has sustained a positive growth trajectory in recent years, underpinned by both traditional and emerging sectors. According to the National Office of Statistics (ONS), the Algerian economy recorded a real GDP growth of 3.7% in 2024, supported by notable contributions from agriculture, industry, trade, and services, while nonโ€‘hydrocarbon growth reached 4.8%, indicating progress in diversification efforts beyond the energy sector. Projections from Algeriaโ€™s Finance Bill envisage continued expansion, with overall GDP expected to grow by 4.5% in 2025, and positive momentum extending into subsequent years as the economy adapts to both domestic development priorities and global conditions.

The World Bank similarly highlights Algeriaโ€™s economic resilience, driven by robust public investment and dynamic household consumption, even as productivity enhancement remains central to achieving sustainable and diversified growth. These figures underscore Algeriaโ€™s gradual shift toward a more balanced economic structure, reinforcing its appeal to foreign investors seeking stable growth opportunities across multiple sectors.

Accordingly, delegates explored opportunities for Algeriaโ€“India collaboration across infrastructure, manufacturing, and digital technologies. The presence of regional Algerian commerce leaders emphasized Algeriaโ€™s focus on connecting local enterprises with global investors, promoting knowledge transfer, and positioning the country as an attractive, investment-ready economy. The forum concluded with a strong reaffirmation of Algeriaโ€™s commitment to economic diversification and sustainable growth, encouraging partnerships with strong global economies.
