ALGIERS- More than 49.45 million landline and mobile Internet subscribers were registered in Algeria in 2022, compared to 45.94 million in 2021, representing an increase of 7.64% in one year, according to the latest report from the Regulatory Authority for Post and Electronic Communications (ARPCE).

Of the 49.45 million subscribers, 44.75 million subscribed to mobile internet (GSM, 3G and 4G) till  December 31, 2022 (41.78 million in the same period of 2021) and 4.69 million were landline internet subscribers (ADSL, 4G LTE and FTTH) till December 31, 2022 (4.16 million in the same period of 2021), noted the report.

With regard to the landline Internet, the ARPCE noted that of the 4.69 million subscribers till December 31, 2022, more than 2.79 million subscribed to ADSL, 1.42 million to 4G LTE and 478,172 fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) subscribers.

Of the overall number of fixed Internet subscribers, 97.58% were residential subscribers against only 2.42% business subscribers.

As for subscribers to the various landline Internet offers, 85.05% recorded speeds between 10 Megabits per second (Mbps) and 20 Mbps, 14.35% between 20 Mbps and 50 Mbps, 0.35% between 50 Mbps and 100 Mbps and 0.23% over 100 Mbps.

The volume of global data traffic consumed till December 31, 2022 was estimated at 1809 Gigabytes (1.8 Terabytes) while the average monthly data revenue per subscriber was estimated at 1150 DA.

Mobile Internet: a 7.13% increase in subscribers in one year

Regarding the evolution of the mobile internet market, more than 44.75 million subscribers were registered till December 31, 2022, compared to 41.78 million till December 31, 2021, an increase of 7.13% in one year .

Of the 44.75 million mobile internet subscribers at the end of last year, 38.79 million subscribed to the 4G mobile network (34.50 million at the end of 2021) and 5.96 million to 3G (7.27 million during the same period of 2021).

ARPCE also referred to a data volume exceeding 827 million Gigabyte (GB) consumed in 2022 in Algeria, against 586 million GB in 2021, estimating the average monthly income per Data subscriber at 317 DA in 2022, against 966 DA in 2021.

It is noted, moreover, an increase in the average use of bandwidth in Algeria during 2022, thus reaching 3220 Gigabits per second (Gbps) against 2000 Gbps in 2020, i.e. an evolution rate of 61%. .
