Internet speed in Algeria: “significant” increase in 2021

The speed of fixed and mobile internet connection in Algeria has seen a “significant” increase during the year 2021, according to the latest report from the “datareportal” website, which specializes in statistics relating to fixed and mobile internet in the world.

The average speed of fixed internet connection in Algeria had been 9.78 Megabit per second (Mbps) in January 2022, an increase of 6.16 Mbps (+170%) compared to the same period of 2021 and that of the mobile internet was 11.44 Mbps, an increase of 3.58 Mbps (+45.5%), according to this report which also publishes statistics relating to social media, as well as trends and information on the state of the digital in the world.

The number of Internet users in Algeria has increased by 1.8 million Internet users, an increase of 7.3% in the space of one year to reach a total of 27, 28 million Internet users, notes this site.

The report also highlights a total of “46.57 million people who have a mobile internet connection in January 2022 in Algeria, an increase of 936,000 people (+ 2.1%) in one year”.

It explains, in this regard, that “many people around the world use more than one mobile connection and may have, for example, a connection for personal use and another for work”, adding that “it is therefore not uncommon for mobile connection figures to significantly exceed the total population number.”.
