Justice Diplomacy in Motion: Algeria, the African Union Advance Judicial Cooperation Framework
By Dr. Hana Saada
In a context marked by evolving institutional challenges across the African continent, Algeria continues to position itself as a committed actor in the consolidation of continental governance frameworks. This orientation was reaffirmed through the high-level meeting between Minister of Justice, Keeper of the Seals, Lotfi Boudjemaâ, and Selma Malika Haddadi, Vice-President of the African Union Commission, during an official visit to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.
The meeting provided a structured platform for both parties to examine avenues for strengthening judicial cooperation between Algeria and African Union institutions. Discussions focused on key areas central to the continent’s legal and institutional architecture, including governance, the rule of law, and the promotion of African judicial mechanisms.
Within this framework, the exchange underscored the importance of fostering coordinated African responses to emerging legal and institutional issues. The dialogue emphasized the value of sharing expertise and developing mechanisms for sustained consultation among member states, thereby enhancing coherence in judicial practices and reinforcing the effectiveness of continental institutions.
The meeting further highlighted Algeria’s engagement in advancing collective African action, grounded in principles of cooperation and institutional strengthening. By contributing to the development of integrated judicial frameworks, Algeria aligns its efforts with broader continental objectives aimed at ensuring stability, promoting development, and consolidating the rule of law across Africa.
