Kabylia’s Song Endures: How MAK Collapses Before It Could Rise – BY: Maamar Gani
Algiers – December 2025 – In an era of shifting global balances and relentless attempts to destabilize resilient nations, troubled voices occasionally emerge, claiming they can fracture a people forged by revolution, nurtured by historical resilience, and fortified by a collective consciousness impervious to illusion.
At the forefront of these voices is Ferhat Mehenni in Paris, armed with hollow rhetoric, attempting to convince the world—or perhaps himself—that a fragile “separatist project” could threaten the unity of a nation built over centuries by the blood of martyrs.
Mehenni’s announcement of a “Kabyle Independence Celebration” on December 14, 2025, is not a meaningful political event; it is merely another display of escapism, an effort to revive a project that collapsed before it began. It fails because it contradicts the very nature of Kabylia and the indomitable spirit of Algeria—a spirit that cannot be bought or divided.
1. A separatist project with no roots and no popular base
A close look at MAK’s trajectory reveals that it has no legitimate foothold within Kabyle society. There is no mass support, no political legitimacy, and no social foundation.
MAK survives on media hype broadcast from abroad, and on futile attempts to manipulate a deeply rooted local identity and a history that resists tampering. From its inception, Mehenni’s project has failed to gain traction in villages, towns, or urban centers in Kabylia, because the region naturally rejects illusion, refuses secession, and engages with its identity through belonging, not division.
2. Kabylia: the memory of the revolution, not a platform for secession
Kabylia is more than a geographic region; it is a living repository of revolutionary memory. It is the cradle of great leaders, the homeland of martyrs, and the stage of decisive battles. How could such a region abandon the nation it helped liberate? How could the Djurdjura Mountains, which sheltered the revolutionaries, be commandeered by an exile claiming to represent it from Paris?
The people of Kabylia know their historical course. Mehenni is not an extension of their struggle, nor an expression of their concerns, nor a representative of their awareness. Even many within his own family and social circle have disowned his rhetoric, viewing it as a distortion of the region’s history and a betrayal of the people’s principles.
3. Kabylia’s conscious citizenry exposes MAK’s falsehood
Today, Kabylia responds to MAK’s calls with mature awareness. Not a single village has endorsed its project. No credible institution or social figure has lent it support. On the contrary, opposition statements have multiplied—from civil society to local elected officials, to cultural and political elites.
While Mehenni attempts to promote the idea of “action on December 14,” the people of the region respond clearly: Kabylia belongs to Algeria, and Algeria belongs to Kabylia. No voice rises above the unity of the nation.
4. Transparent foreign support and a failed bet on dismantling Algeria
This separatist project resonates only within certain external corridors seeking leverage over Algeria. Political analysts note that some circles tied to the Moroccan establishment, certain French actors clinging to colonial mentalities, and some Zionist centers exploiting Arab divisions, manipulate the MAK dossier for narrow agendas.
This assessment is not a baseless accusation, but the result of objective political observation:
-
The timing of MAK’s moves coincides with moments of Algeria’s regional strength.
-
Its narrative is broadcast from capitals disconnected from Kabylia’s reality.
-
Media support comes from platforms accustomed to targeting Algeria.
Yet the awareness of the Algerian people—especially the Kabyles—has nullified these attempts, recognizing that any external support for Mehenni is merely an effort to undermine national unity and regional standing.
5. Algeria: a state that thwarts conspiracies and does not respond to them
Algeria is not a weak state that will fall to a statement issued abroad. Its people are not fragile enough to fracture under a separatist project devoid of legitimacy. Algeria has endured brutal colonization, a bloody decade, and repeated attempts to drag it into chaos. Today, stronger and more stable than ever, it will not yield to rhetoric emanating from Parisian hotels.
Algeria today is a state of institutions:
-
A strong army,
-
Influential diplomacy,
-
An aware populace,
-
A unified history,
-
An indivisible identity.
Anyone who imagines they can undermine this structure through a paper called “MAK” misunderstands the nature of this nation.
Conclusion: Between the Songbirds and the Bats
The songbirds of Kabylia have been chirping in the name of Algeria for millennia, singing in their language, defending their values, and preserving their land and identity.
The bats of exile, by contrast, can only operate in darkness, emerge when awareness wanes, and exert influence only as far as illusions allow.
No matter what Ferhat Mehenni and his followers attempt, their project will remain a political farce with no impact on the ground. Nations mapped in the blood of martyrs cannot be divided by decrees announced from Paris, and Kabylia, which stood with sword in hand during the revolution, will not become a pawn in the hands of reckless actors.
Kabylia’s song chirps for Algeria…
And Mehenni’s bats will never divide this great people, no matter how the Moroccan establishment, France, or Zionist forces line up behind them.
