Kamel Rezig: “Algeria Implements an Ambitious Strategy for the Automotive Industry”

Algiers – September 2025 – In a speech, Algeria’s Minister of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion, Kamel Rezig, underscored the country’s unwavering commitment to spearheading Africa’s economic integration and industrial development. Speaking on behalf of the Acting Prime Minister at the official opening of the 4th Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF), hosted in Algiers, Rezig described the continental gathering as far more than a marketplace.
He hailed the IATF as “an opportunity to reveal the immense potential Africa holds across various sectors,” emphasizing that the event establishes enduring bridges of cooperation, promotes the sharing of expertise, and sets the stage for joint initiatives designed to transform the continent’s economic trajectory.
Rezig recalled that since its independence, Algeria has consistently remained loyal to its principles and to its African identity. He stressed that Algeria perceives Africa not merely as a neighboring bloc but as an extension of its own territory, deploying its resources in service of continental aspirations. He further noted that the nation spares no effort in aligning with the objectives of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and in supporting Agenda 2063—the African Union’s strategic framework for inclusive growth and sustainable development.
“The higher authorities of Algeria are firmly convinced that Africa’s renaissance can only be achieved through an integrated economy, the intensification of collective action, reinforced institutional capacities, and solidarity among its peoples,” the minister asserted.
Turning to the central theme of the exhibition, Rezig highlighted Algeria’s ambitious strategy in the automotive industry. Over the past five years, he explained, the country has laid the foundation for a modernized sector based on comprehensive production lines, a domestic integration rate surpassing 30 percent, and an ecosystem of subcontracting that actively engages national enterprises. This industrial vision, he insisted, represents a decisive step toward positioning Algeria as a key player in Africa’s burgeoning automotive market, while simultaneously reinforcing the continent’s collective capacity to meet its own developmental needs.
