Kamel Rezig Calls on African Investors to Seize Expanding Opportunities in Algeria

At a major pan-African investment forum, Algeria positions itself as a strategic gateway to the continent, offering unmatched business potential and regional connectivity

Algiers, Algeria | May 11th, 2025 —  In a bold call to action, Algeria’s Minister of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion, Kamel Rezig, urged African investors and entrepreneurs to take full advantage of Algeria’s dramatically improved business climate and evolving investment landscape. Speaking at the Forum on Investment and Trade in Africa, which brought together around 1,000 economic operators from 43 countries, Rezig laid out a compelling vision of Algeria as a rising continental hub for trade and industrial collaboration.

Rezig declared the coming years the “Decade of Algeria-Africa,” underscoring the country’s recent economic leap forward and emphasizing the extraordinary investment potential across sectors. “We call on African and Algerian entrepreneurs alike to leverage Algeria’s material, human, and natural resources to forge authentic, long-term economic and commercial partnerships,” he stated, highlighting Algeria’s pivotal role in shaping Africa’s economic future.

He pointed to the ongoing structural reforms and major infrastructure projects as key drivers of Algeria’s emerging regional leadership. Among the flagship initiatives, he emphasized the expansion of the railway network and the Trans-Saharan Highway, a megaproject set to link Algiers to Lagos, thereby strengthening continental connectivity and offering landlocked countries strategic access to European maritime trade routes.

Lakhdar Rekhroukh, Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, echoed this ambition by stressing the foundational importance of roads, ports, airports, and railways. These elements, he said, are essential not only for stimulating economic activity but also for generating fresh investment opportunities within the framework of Africa’s economic integration.

Meanwhile, Omar Rekkache, Director General of the Algerian Investment Promotion Agency (AAPI), emphasized the urgency of advancing integration mechanisms. He advocated for more agile investment frameworks and expanded facilities for investors, to accelerate Algeria’s transformation into a continental gateway and commercial powerhouse.

The event not only spotlighted Algeria’s strategic infrastructure and market reforms but also reaffirmed its ambition to play a leading role in intra-African trade and investment flows, in line with the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and broader Pan-African economic goals.
