Algiers, February 20, 2024 – The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Ahmed Attaf, met today with Mr. Alibak Bakiyev, the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, who is visiting Algeria as part of the second session of political consultations between the two countries.
During the meeting, both parties acknowledged the positive momentum in Algeria-Kazakhstan relations, particularly following President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s decision to open an Algerian embassy in Astana in 2022.
Minister Attaf commended the Kazakh authorities’ determination to reciprocate by soon establishing an embassy in Algeria, a move that underscores the commitment of both nations to deepen their diplomatic ties.
The discussions also focused on ways to enhance cooperation across various sectors, leveraging the strengths and capabilities of both countries. High-level visits, the establishment of a joint commission, and the enhancement of the legal framework were among the proposed measures to strengthen bilateral relations.
Minister Attaf emphasized the importance of fostering economic, political, and cultural exchanges between Algeria and Kazakhstan, noting the potential for collaboration in areas such as energy, agriculture, technology, and education.
The forthcoming establishment of the Kazakh embassy in Algeria represents a significant milestone in the diplomatic relationship between the two nations. It is expected to facilitate closer collaboration, facilitate trade and investment opportunities, and deepen mutual understanding and cooperation on regional and international issues of common interest.
