Khaled Nezzar Laid to Rest at El-Alia Cemetery

ALGIERS- The former Minister of National Defense, retired Major General Khaled Nezzar, who passed away yesterday, was buried on Saturday at the El-Alia Cemetery in Bab-Ezzouar (Algiers), next to the grave of his late wife.

A large crowd accompanied him to his final resting place. Prime Minister Nadir Larbaoui, Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army, General of the Army Said Chanegriha, Minister of the Interior, Local Authorities, and Regional Planning Brahim Merad, Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf, and Justice Minister Keeper of the Seals Abderrachid Tabbi attended the funeral, along with retired General Mohamed Mediene and retired General Mohamed Touati.

Earlier, President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and Minister of National Defense, expressed his condolences on Friday following the death of former Minister of Defense, the late Khaled Nezzar.

“Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un (Surely we belong to Allah and to Him shall we return). With immense sadness and deep sorrow, I learned of the passing of Major General Khaled Nezzar, former Minister of National Defense. May his soul rest in peace,” stated President Tebboune in his message of condolence.

The President also paid a heartfelt tribute to Khaled Nezzar, noting that “the deceased was one of the most eminent military figures. He dedicated his life, full of sacrifices and selflessness, in the service of the nation in the various positions and responsibilities he held.”

“Faced with this ordeal, we can only resign ourselves to the will of Allah. Compassionate to the pain of his family and colleagues, I extend my sincere condolences to the family of the deceased and to the People’s National Army (ANP), the worthy heir of the National Liberation Army (ALN), praying to Almighty Allah to surround him with His holy mercy, to welcome him into His vast paradise, and to grant patience and comfort to his loved ones,” he continued.
