Khenchela: Algerian Army Eliminates Second Terrorist in Ongoing Counterterrorism Operation

Three Kalashnikov Rifles and Ammunition Seized as National Army Tightens Security Grip in Oued Gharghar, Chechar

Algiers, Algeria | May 16th, 2025 — The Algerian People’s National Army (ANP) has successfully neutralized a second terrorist in the military sector of Khenchela, during an ongoing large-scale search and sweep operation. The Ministry of National Defense (MDN) confirmed in a statement released Friday, May 16, 2025, that the operation is still underway and continues to yield significant results.

According to the MDN communiqué, “In continuation of the search and ratissage operation in the Oued Gharghar area, located in the municipality of Chechar, within the military sector of Khenchela in the Fifth Military Region, ANP detachments eliminated, on the morning of Friday, May 16, 2025, a second terrorist.”

The troops also recovered three Kalashnikov-type submachine guns and a considerable quantity of ammunition from the scene. This marks another decisive blow against the remnants of terrorist cells still attempting to operate in remote regions of the country.

The ministry emphasized that “this operation, which remains in progress, highlights the constant vigilance and unwavering determination of ANP forces to relentlessly track down and eradicate the last pockets of terrorism.”

This development underscores Algeria’s ongoing commitment to safeguarding national security and maintaining operational pressure on any elements seeking to destabilize the country.
