Algiers, Algeria– Thursday, July 17, 2025 |  In an initiative that underscores Algeria’s strategic focus on diaspora engagement and child welfare, Minister of Relations with the Parliament, Kawthar Krikou, welcomed a delegation of young Algerians from the diaspora at the ministry’s headquarters. The meeting, which coincides with the National Day of the Child observed annually on July 15, formed part of a broader program aiming to reinforce national identity and civic consciousness among Algerians abroad.

According to an official statement issued by the Ministry, the encounter was designed to inform the young delegates about Algeria’s domestic legal framework concerning the protection and promotion of children’s rights. The discussions placed particular emphasis on the country’s efforts to align its national legislation with both its constitutional values and international obligations. Minister Krikou reaffirmed that the best interests of the child remain at the heart of all legal and policy measures adopted by the Algerian government.

In her address, the Minister highlighted the attention given by Algeria’s highest authorities—chiefly President Abdelmadjid Tebboune—to the national community residing abroad. “Our commitment is not merely rhetorical; it is embedded in a national policy that seeks to strengthen the spiritual and civic bond between young expatriates and their homeland,” she stated. Krikou added that the youth of the diaspora are not only ambassadors of Algerian values abroad but are also essential partners in building a more inclusive and responsive legislative future.

The Minister further outlined the institutional role of the Ministry of Relations with the Parliament, which serves as a critical bridge between the executive branch and both chambers of the Algerian Parliament. She underscored the importance of involving the youth in legislative awareness, fostering a generation that is both informed and engaged in public affairs.

The delegation’s visit also aligns with an ongoing summer program initiated by the Ministry of Youth, which welcomes groups of Algerian youth from abroad to participate in cultural and civic immersion camps across the country. This initiative aims to deepen their connection to national heritage while encouraging direct interaction with Algerian institutions.
